Hello Families!
๐ A big thank you to all the families who were able to come out for the Colonial Fall Festival on Saturday! It was wonderful to see everyone, and I hope you all had a fantastic time celebrating with us.
As the weather cools and the leaves begin to change, our classrooms are embracing the beauty of autumn with engaging, seasonal activities. Teachers are using pumpkins, colorful leaves, and harvest themes to teach counting, sorting, and color recognition. These activities not only foster creativity but also build fine motor skills. At home, families can take their children on a nature walk to collect leaves or acorns and use them for art projects or sorting activities. Feel free to send in any items that you collect on your walk. Teachers can include them in their child-guided play activities.
๐ฅ October Fire Drill
I am proud to share that our students did an excellent job during the October fire drill! They followed instructions beautifully and handled the drill with focus and calm. Way to go, kiddos!
๐ Spirit Day on Tuesday
We are asking students and staff to wear Pink on Tuesday, 10/13. Letโs come together and wear pink to raise awareness and show our support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
We are looking forward to another great week ahead. I wish you well!

How We Support Language Development in the Classroom
We are just about six weeks into the school year, and a lot of learning has been going on in the classrooms. This week I want to share some of the few ways that our staff support language development for all of our students.
Language development is at the core of many of our activities, from storytelling to songs and interactive read-alouds. We encourage students to express themselves through visuals, words, actions, and play. Our staff will be working on the core vocabulary words โHelpโ and โWant.โ throughout the month. At home, families can support language growth by reading daily with their child, asking open-ended questions to stimulate conversation, or using sign language that highlight the core words "โHelpโ and โWant.โ
At-Home Activity: Start a family tradition of "storytime" every evening. Choose a new book or make up a story together, encouraging your child to add details.
๐๐ Curriculum Learning ๐๐
๐ฒ๐ณ TREES Learning Unit ๐ฒ๐ณ
Our classrooms are beginning a new unit of study in our curriculum. Students will be learning all about trees. They will be observing and comparing trees to learn about what lives in them, what theyโre made from, and who cares for them. We hope this study will help children explore and appreciate nature. As they study trees, the teachers will use literacy, math, the arts, and technology to explore the topic in depth. Students will learn important social studies and scientific concepts through firsthand investigations.
If you are able to take a โtree walkโ with your child, we would appreciate your help in collecting tree parts to investigate. If you can, please take a bag to a tree area and collect things that have fallen, such as leaves, bark, acorns, twigs, flowers, fruit, or cones. See below for suggestions of other tree parts to bring in.

Family Safety Tip:
Smoke alarms save lives! Ensure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home, particularly near bedrooms. For children with sensory needs, the sound of a smoke alarm may be overwhelming or frightening. Prepare your child by playing a short recording of the alarm sound and practicing what to do when it goes off. Pair the sound with a clear direction, like โWhen you hear this, we go outside.โ
๐ Try this week: Test your smoke alarms together with your child so they know what to expect.
๐ธ Picture Day ๐ธ
CEEP Picture Day is Friday, October 23rd. Please see the pdf flyer attached below.
If you pay online, please make sure you inform your child's classroom teacher as well. In the past, the school and teachers were not notified of which students paid for pictures online, and some, unfortunately, did not have their pictures taken on that day.

Volunteer Information
Would you like to volunteer at CEEP? Parents will need to apply via the Colonial School District website. It takes up to 10 days for it to be approved.
https://www.colonialschooldistrict.org/parents-students/volunteer/
Once it is approved, you will show up on our school's volunteer list. You should apply for all of the schools because the approval list lasts for 3 years. When your child(ren) moves up or to another school, you will show up on the โnew schoolsโ list because you have applied for all of the schools. If you do not, you will not show up on the new school list and will have to sign up again to become a volunteer.
๐ค Student Absences ๐ค
If your child is absent, please make sure you complete the attendance form on the day of the student's absence. You can find this link on the weekly family newsletter.
