Foothills Falconer
Week of Monday, October 26th- Friday, October 30th
π This Week at a Glance
Principal's Corner
Good morning, Foothills families~
I hope this newsletter finds you well and healthy; the crud has already started making rounds at Foothills. As our weather begins to cool off, please remind your children to come to school prepared to enjoy outdoor recess. We believe that kids NEED outside time and will take every opportunity possible to enjoy outdoor recess.
I was able to help assemble Red Folders this week and I would like to send a BIG SHOUT OUT to all of our families who are ensuring that red folder skill practice is completed. The extra practice makes a difference for your child and we thank you for your support. Additionally, thank you for sending your child's red folder back to school every Wednesday!
As we approach the November election, Iβve received several questions regarding the proposed Mill Levy Override (MLO). To help clarify how this impacts our schools, here are two helpful resources:
Spirit Week (See below for Spirit Week theme days) and Halloween are here!
Trunk or Treat
- On October 29th, we invite you and your little goblins to 'Trunk or Treat' in the Foothills parking lot. We will begin at 4:00 and end at 5:00. If you are interested in hosting a decorated trunk, please sign up using the link found in the Family Engagement section of this newsletter.
Halloween Parade/Parties
- Our Halloween parade is such a fun time for kids and parents and we are excited to host this event on October 30th at 8:45. If you plan on staying for the parade, find a spot anywhere along the path going down from the back gate (byt the baseball field) continuing around the building by our preschool classrooms. Our parade begins with kids coming out the turtle doors (doors by the PK temps), moving down the path towards the playground, and then moving up the path and re-entering the building through bubble doors (doors off the parking lot).
- Classroom parties will begin immediately following the parade. Each grade level will be communicating their party plans/needs to you this week. If your child's grade level is inviting parents to the party, we kindly ask that you check in at the main office.

For those of you who use our before and after school care provider, I am sad to report that the City of Lakewood is discontinuing all of their before and after school programming (Foothills Elementary and South Lakewood Elementary). We have secured another provider and I am excited to share their information with you. Childcare Innovations will be providing high quality care and I have links below with their information. I am coordinating with the City of Lakewood staff and Childcare Innovations on a transition meet and greet. Stay tuned for more information around this event.

π― Attendance Corner
Coming to school regularly helps students feel connected and confident.
Will your students class have the highest attendance rate in October? Treats for the winning class!
We will do a drawing from all students at 95% or higher average daily attendance for the month of October and they will have lunch with Mrs. Schneider.

π What Weβre Doing
Red Folders: Please send your child's red folder back this Wednesday. This will give teachers a moment to continue supporting and praising students for their hard work and commitment to skill practice. Classrooms have awards and goals related to red folder practice work.
π¬ Conversation Starters
- For all kids- Would you rather walk through cobwebs or swim in a slime-filled pool?
Here is a math discussion question for the week:
Preschool- 2nd Grade: Dice FUN!
Have your child roll a pair of dice. For PK, have your child tell you how many dots on are the dice. For our 1st and 2nd grade students have your child tell you the number on each dice quickly. This skill is called subitizing (the ability to instantly recognize a group of objects without counting them one by one). Ask your child to find the sum of both dice. For extra challenge, you can add one more die.
3rd- 5th Grade: Multiplication WAR
- Players: 2 people (Parent vs. Child)
- Materials: A standard deck of cards (Remove Jacks, Queens, and Kings. Aces = 1).
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- The Deal: Shuffle the cards and deal the entire deck evenly between the parent and the child. Keep the cards face down in a stack.
- The Flip: At the same time, both players flip over their top card and place it in the center.
- The Race: The first person to multiply the two cards together and shout out the correct answer wins both cards and puts them at the bottom of their stack.
- Example: If the parent flips a 7 and the child flips a 6, the first person to yell "42!" wins the round.
- Winning the Game: The game ends when one player wins all the cards, or when a timer goes off (whoever has the most cards wins!).

Second Step Update:
This month as a building, we are starting Unit 2 in Second Step, which focuses on Emotion Management. Students will practice noticing and naming their feelings, recognizing how emotions feel in their bodies, and using strategies to calm down when feelings get big. At home, you can support this learning by naming feelings together (βThat was frustrating!β), taking a few slow breaths with your child, and talking about what helps each of you feel ready to try again.
Youβll find a Home Link for each grade level below. We encourage you to read your childβs Home Link for simple ways to connect what theyβre learning at school with everyday moments at home!
October is Bullying Prevention Month
At Foothills, we want every child to feel safe, included, and valued. Families can help by talking with children about kindness, including others, and telling a trusted adult when something doesnβt feel right. If your child shares a concern about bullying, please reach out to their teacher or to me so we can support them. The Colorado Department of Education also offers bullying prevention resources for families.
