COLT CORNER

CMS Families,

We had a great first week back after the break. I had the pleasure of watching our Colts excel at both the Special Olympics and the Meet of Champions on Thursday! We have some incredibly talented students in our building. Go Colts!

Dr. Bryan Calvert

As the weather warms up please remember that dress code will be enforced. The dress code was amended in February and states: Shorts, including athletic shorts, must extend PAST the student's knuckles naturally and must remain visible when standing.

Next week is Hope Week, a time dedicated to promoting connectedness and well-being on campus! Our CMS Hope Squad has planned a series of fun and uplifting activities just for you.

Please make sure all clothing items are school appropriate and follow the GCISD dress code.

Hope Squad has some fun activities planned for you each day!

Auditions for the CMS Stars dance team are April 29 - May 1

All students interested in auditioning must attend a mandatory meeting with a guardian Monday April 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the CMS cafeteria.

Information about auditions can be found at https://bit.ly/starsauditions2025

Every week our staff members have the opportunity to nominate one CMS Student to receive a Colt Pride Award. These students have demonstrated at least one of our Colt Pride Values: Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, Excellence! Way to go COLTS!

The Colleyville Police Department's Junior Police Academy is a great opportunity for the youth of Colleyville to learn what it takes to be a police officer. During this one week mini academy, students will gain knowledge of some of the functions their local law enforcement professionals perform on a daily basis. The students will learn pertinent information that can affect them in their community. Officers of the Colleyville Police Department provide the students instruction on many different facets of the police profession including traffic stops, handling crime scenes, SWAT operations, and conducting building searches.

Please email Officer Amy Beregszaszy at aberegszaszy@colleyville.com or call 817.305.4907 if you are interested in this class. A written recommendation letter from a school official (teacher, principal, etc.) or a community leader (coach, pastor, etc.) and parental permission slip will need to be completed prior to registration. Classes will be filled with first time attendees taking priority.

Get ready for an unforgettable summer! Registration for GCISD summer programs opens March 24 on our Summer Programs page. Whether your child loves sports, adventure, hands-on learning, or making new friends, we have something for everyone!

Welcome to Spring! We are seeing an increase in pink eye cases. Pink eye is extremely contagious. This time of year it can be difficult to distinguish between allergies and a bacterial infection. Here are some main differences between pink eye and allergies:

Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)

* Pain

* Drainage (usually sticky, thick, and yellow/green)

* Affects only one eye

* Contagious (will frequently move from one eye to the other)

Allergies

* Itchy

* Usually associated with other allergy symptoms

* Watery drainage (no color)

* Affects both eyes

* Not contagious

In order to minimize the risk of pink eye, encourage your student to wash their hands frequently and avoid touching their eyes.If your child has pink eye, they can return to school 24 hours after beginning antibiotic eye drops. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
