A Note from Mrs. Satkoski.......
Attendance Matters!! Remember our goal is for each student and staff member to miss less than 10 days per school year. This is still two weeks!
State Testing - 3rd and 4th Grade parents - PLEASE READ!
State testing begins in September. Third and fourth grade students take ILEARN Checkpoints three times a year in both ELA and Math. They will take the ELA Checkpoint 1 on Tuesday, September 29 and the Math Checkpoint 1 on September 30. PLEASE make sure your child gets to school on time and ready to go those days. Third grade tests at 8:15 am and fourth grade tests at 9:30 am. The tests usually last about an hour to an hour and a half. They take three checkpoints throughout the year and then the summative test in April/May. All tests will be announced ahead of time in the upcoming events section of the newsletter in BOLD print. We appreciate your help in preparing your student - in bed on time, to school on time, and pump them up! We want to show how incredibly hard our students and teachers work towards success at GLE!! ILEARN test scores and attendance rates play into our school grade. Thank you for your help!
Free and Reduced Lunch Information
The temporary grace period for families who received benefits based on an application from last school year has now ended. Families who have not completed a new application for this school year have reverted to paid status.
If a family believes they may still qualify for free or reduced-price meals, they will need to complete a new application if they have not already done so.
We have sent previous communications to families regarding the application process, and families affected by the status change have also received an email notifying them of their updated status. We would just appreciate an additional layer of communication from the school level to help ensure this information reaches families as quickly and consistently as possible.
Families can complete a new application at the following link:

Vision Screening 2026
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Good vision plays an important role in your child’s learning and success at school. To support your student’s vision needs, Indiana law requires vision screenings at specific grade levels.
Kindergarten or 1st Grade: A Modified Clinical Technique (MCT) examination is required and is performed by a licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist.
3rd, 5th, and 8th Grade: Vision screenings are performed by the school nurse.
Our school will conduct vision screenings for Kindergarten on Friday, September 25. The screening is quick and simple, taking just a few minutes.
If your child passes, no report will be sent home.
If the screening suggests that your child may need further vision care, the results will be shared with you.
* Reminder: If your child wears glasses or contact lenses, please make sure they wear them on the day of the screening. *
If you prefer that your child not participate, please send a written note or contact the health office.
If you have any questions, please contact the Health Office or School Nurse using the contact information provided below.
Thank you for supporting your child’s health and education!
Sincerely,
Sherry Stanfield, RN

Attendance Policy
The State of Indiana enacted a new attendance policy that began last year. School grades also began this past year and attendance is a HUGE piece of this. After ten days of being absent (unexcused) and 18 total absences (unexcused or excused), we will send home a letter, have an attendance meeting, and make a DCS call. Ten days is TWO WEEKS out of school, of which we have approximately 36 a year. When students are at school, they learn!!

NAFCS Calendar
REMINDER! We only have ONE week at Fall and Spring breaks this year, two at Christmas. PLEASE check out the calendar so that you plan vacations and appointments accordingly.
Take time to review the following attendance document (listed in our handbook) - this was put in place by the state last year. Attendance matters! We would like for every staff and student to miss at or less than ten days this year - that is a goal of 94%. When your child is here - they learn!
School Family Commitment
I will take a deep breath when I am frustrated or have a big emotion and notice how I am feeling.
