Note from Mrs. Lockwood:

We are having a great week! Last week’s Back to School Picnic was a huge success! Thank you to all who were able to come out and connect as a Clairemont community.

Are you interested in serving on the School Leadership Team (SLT)? Applications are due by Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Please look here for the SLT application. You will have the opportunity to vote at Curriculum Night on the 28th.

Curriculum Night will take place Thursday, August 28, from 5:30-7:30. Before Curriculum Night begins, we will have a General PTA meeting, 5:30-6:00 and then begin Curriculum Night at 6:00. Join our PTA, Clairemont instructional team and your student's teacher to get an overview of what the learning will look like this year. It's a great way to see how we "learn together with our heads, hearts, and hands!"

Thursday is school-wide communication day. In your child's red communication folder is the fall STAR universal screening report for reading and math. Fall assessments provide valuable baseline data on student achievement in the areas of reading and math. The goal in sharing this data with you is to build a strong educational partnership between Clairemont staff and families focused on student success.

1st Grade CogAT Testing Starts September 3

From September 3-5, all 1st-grade students will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). Unlike traditional achievement tests, which measure how well a student has learned the curriculum, the CogAT assesses a child’s ability to reason abstractly and recognize patterns and relationships in the world around them. Teachers can use CogAT scores to better understand a child’s pattern of cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Our school district also uses CogAT scores to screen for cognitively gifted students.

Even if you didn't track as you went along, you can still fill out one of the sheets with some of the books you read over the summer. Click the link below if you need another form. There are options to track books, minutes, or reading activities. All students who turn in a completed form will be invited to a popsicle party at the end of the month AND they'll get to check out THREE books at a time all school year!!
