The Mount Laurel Leaflet

At a special meeting held on June 1, 2026, the Mount Laurel Board of Education appointed Dr. Neil Burti as Superintendent of Schools, effective August 1, 2026.

Dr. Burti was selected following a comprehensive search process to succeed Dr. George J. Rafferty, who will retire at the end of July after years of dedicated service to the Mount Laurel community.

Dr. Burti brings more than 25 years of experience as an educator, administrator, and public servant. He currently serves as Director of Secondary Education in the Cherry Hill School District, where he has provided leadership in curriculum, instruction, and school improvement initiatives.

He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Movement Studies and Exercise Science from East Stroudsburg University, a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Temple University, and a Doctorate in Innovation and Leadership from Wilmington University.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Burti has served as a highly regarded principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. In addition, he has taught undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral-level courses, sharing his expertise with future educators and school leaders.

Under his leadership, schools have earned both state and national recognition, and he has presented his work at conferences across the country. In 2024, Dr. Burti was honored as the New Jersey State Visionary Principal of the Year and was later recognized as a 2025 NASSP National Principal of the Year Nominee.

Committed to developing the next generation of educators, Dr. Burti has supervised clinical internships for pre-service teachers and administrators, mentored aspiring school leaders pursuing standard certification, and chaired doctoral dissertation committees focused on improving educational practice.

Dr. Burti resides in Marlton with his wife, Jessy, and their four children. He looks forward to partnering with students, staff, families, and the community to build upon Mount Laurel's tradition of excellence and ensure continued success for every learner.
