YOUTH HEART CHECK YOUTH HEART CHECK

Your childโ€™s health and safety are always a priority, and we are pleased to share an important opportunity available to families in our community.

On Wednesday, Nov. 4th, My HeartCheck will be at Wheatridge Middle School providing comprehensive youth heart screenings for young people ages 8 to 25.

My HeartCheck has partnered with Gardner-Edgerton Schools since 2015 to help families take a proactive step in protecting their childrenโ€™s heart health. While we do not formally endorse specific organizations, we believe this is a valuable resource for families who want added peace of mind.

Many serious heart conditions in young people can go undetected during routine checkups or sports physicals. A HeartCheck includes non-invasive testing designed to look for hidden heart conditions that may not have obvious warning signs.

To date, My HeartCheck has screened more than 20,000 young people and has helped identify serious heart conditions that may otherwise have gone unnoticed. Screenings are performed by experienced medical professionals and reviewed by pediatric cardiology specialists.

HeartChecks are available for $179, compared to $1,500 or more when similar testing is performed in a hospital setting. Financial aid is also available and can be requested on their website.

Appointments are required, and space is limited.

Click Here to Learn More and Schedule Your Childโ€™s HeartCheck

Cost should not prevent a child from being screened. Financial assistance is available through partnerships with the Strive for Life Foundation and the Jordan Robert Mann Foundation.

Click Here to Request Financial Assistance

We encourage families to consider taking advantage of this important opportunity.

HEALTH NEWS HEALTH NEWS

Please remember to send your students updated immunization forms to the office. You can email them to Nurse Carey at lantisc@usd231.com.

Parents: If you have a student who will be taking scheduled medications during the school day, a new physicians order will be necessary. It should include the students name, date of birth, medication name, dosage, and time to be given. Call 913-856-3809 to schedule an appointment to drop off the medications with the nurse.

USD 231 follows the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment's recommendations for excluding individuals with diseases and symptoms.

Here are a few of the most frequent scenarios we get asked about:

- If your student has a temperature (over 100.0), they need to remain at home until they are fever-free without the use of medications for 24 hours.

-If your student has COVID, Influenza, RSV, or another respiratory virus, they need to remain at home until they are BOTH fever-free for 24 hours AND their other symptoms are improving.

-If your student has diarrhea or vomiting, they need to remain at home until they are diarrhea-free for 24 hours without the use of medication or they have had no vomiting for 24 hours.

Here is a link to all of their recommendations: JCHD 2025 Disease and Symptom Exclusion Recommendations/Regulations.
