Aly has been working really hard using self-reflection to work towards achieving her goals. She has collaborated with Ms. Simpson to evaluate her goals using her very own reflective task sheet. She writes her own written reflections and she has learned to work at a pace where time is spent on task to complete classroom assignments, she has learned to double check her own assignments to fix mistakes on purpose, and she asks questions when she is unsure of skills she is learning. Congratulations Aly. You are a great student! Ms. Simpson is so very proud for you!

Tyler, Aubree, and Logan helped to comfort a student who was having a difficult time transitioning into the school day. They made the student feel welcomed and important to our class. This kindness and empathy helped the student be more willing to come into the classroom. It also allowed the teacher to continue teaching and not draw undue attention to the student which would have made him feel more uncomfortable.

Carson read to another student who was struggling to read. It helped the other student feel confident in reading on their own.

Emma is helping other sound out words when writing. When a classmate needs help with their writing she will help them sound out words and spell the words. This helps the student feel more confident in themselves when writing.

Rise Up Award Nominations Rise Up Award Nominations

  • The St. Mary’s County Citizens’ Advisory Committee for Special Education (CACSE) Rise Up Awards: The Rise Up Award recognizes a teacher, administrator, therapist, assistant to an educator, or anyone in the Special Education system who has truly gone to extraordinary efforts to contribute, in a compassionate and caring way, to the growth, happiness, and general well-being of our children with disabilities. If you are a parent or caregiver who would like to nominate a person who has positively impacted your child’s life, please consider nominating them for the Rise Up Award. When educators go above and beyond to help our children “Rise Up” and exceed in life, it is our pleasure to recognize and thank them for the amazing jobs that they do. (The nomination deadline is March 7, 2025)
