Meet Dorcy Covarrubias, Speech Pathologist
Hello! My name is Dorcy Covarrubias. I’m thrilled to be joining the team as a bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist. I went to Saint Xavier University for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. This is my 6th year working in the school setting and love what I do! It’s a joy to be back in the community where I grew up, now serving the families and students who make it so special.
When I’m not working with my students, I’m usually chasing after my three kids, curled up with a good book, adding to my plant collection, or exploring new coffee spots (recommendations always welcome!). I’m looking forward to a great year full of growth, connection, and communication!
Meet Laurel Heumann, Social Worker
Hello! My name is Laurel Heumann, and I’m thrilled to be the social worker at Walker Elementary School this year. I truly love working with children and watching them grow into the best versions of themselves. Supporting students as they navigate school, big emotions, and life changes is something I'm deeply passionate about. I believe every child has the potential to thrive, and I feel honored to be part of their journey.
Outside of school, I’m a mom of three and love spending quality time with my kids. I enjoy baking, cooking, and when I can find a quiet moment, getting lost in a good book. I’m also a big Disney fan, a travel enthusiast, and an animal lover. I volunteer with a foster rescue organization and usually have one or two foster dogs in addition to my own two dogs and two cats.
I’m really looking forward to an amazing year with the students and staff at Walker Elementary—it’s going to be a fantastic school year!

Drivers will remain in their vehicle, and students will exit out the passenger side of the vehicle. Students will be assisted by school personnel. All families wishing to walk their students to the school, please park your vehicle in the public parking area located on 67h Street in front of the Swanson Center..
