Stevenson High School
October 2, 2026
Dear Stevenson Families and Students,
Welcome to October!
There is a distinct energy around our school this time of year that signals the arrival of Homecoming. There is something uniquely American about this tradition. It is a time when entire towns gather to honor their roots, celebrate their schools, and pass the torch to the next generation. For us, Homecoming gives us a chance to step back and reflect on the core pillars that define who we are: Pride, Tradition, and Legacy.
That connection between our past and present came alive last Saturday when we opened our doors to the Class of 1976. Walking through the halls with them was a great reminder that the Spartan spirit does not fade with time. As they toured the Performing Arts Center, the Field House, and the Library Media Center, their eyes lit up with memories of their own high school days.
Beyond the nostalgia, our guests were blown away by how great the school looks today. They saw a building that is meticulously maintained and respected. That level of care takes constant effort, and we owe a huge thank you to our LPS Operations, Facilities, and Maintenance Teams as well as our SHS custodial crew, led by our very own Kevin Trombly, for their hard work in keeping our campus a place we can all be proud of.
Seeing the Class of 1976 revisit their high school home brought our values into sharp focus. Their visit showed us what Tradition really means. It showed how the Pride we take in our building today respects the foundation laid decades ago. Most importantly, it reminded us of the Legacy our current students inherit every single day.
When our students walk these hallways this week, they are taking their place in a long line of Spartans who came before them, while building the path for those who will follow.
I invite our entire community to come out and celebrate this special week with us at our Homecoming football game. Doors open at 6:00 PM, and we would love to see our stands filled with Spartan Double Blue and White. Let's come together, celebrate our history, and cheer on our current students as they create memories of their own.
Thank you for everything you do for our school.

2026-2027 FAFSA
Haven't Completed the FAFSA Yet?? No Problem!
This school year saw delays & complications with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Thankfully that is all behind us and financial aid reports have been sending to college & trade school financial aid offices since April. If you have a graduating senior, assist their completion of the FAFSA with the resources below. There has never been a better time for students to use state & federal aid to pay for postsecondary costs. Remember, by filling out the FAFSA you are not accepting loans; your student may be eligible for free money in the form of Grants, Scholarships, Michigan Tuition Assistance Program & the Michigan Achievement Scholarship. The only way to utilize this free financial aid is to do the first step - complete the FAFSA.

Question on the Week
What can I do to best support my daughter/son when they refuse to go to school?
It’s not surprising if your child complains about going to school from time to time. Maybe they’re nervous about a math test or a presentation. That’s inevitable.
But when fear and anxiety regularly keep your child from getting on the bus, walking into the building or staying in class, it’s likely something more than just a case of the jitters.
Pediatrician Ellen Rome, MD, and child psychiatrist Joseph Austerman, DO, explain what school refusal is, why it happens and how you can help your child approach school with confidence in the article School Refusal: When Anxiety Causes Kids to Avoid School.
