A Day of Chess at RND
"Spread the Love" at RND
As part of Pink Shirt Day, Students' Council with the help of the Grade 11 leadership class, created a wall display in the Student Commons. Every heart on the wall had the name of a student. This initiative was meant to remind everyone that they are valued and loved here at RND. At RND we encourage all students to "spread the love" and be kind to others.
Grade A Eggs
Last Friday, Grade 9 students in the TAS course learned that eggs contain 9 amino acids, hence being a complete protein. Students then applied their new learning to create delicious and nutritious devilled eggs with fancy edible garnish.
RND Athletics

Student Services Update
Grade 9/10/11 Course Selections:
MyBlueprint is now open for course selections for the 2025/26 school year. Students who require additional guidance or support with course planning are encouraged to schedule an appointment with their guidance counsellor. Choices are due by Thursday, March 12th.
Attention Grade 12 Students:
All Grade 12 students who have applied to college or university now have their transcripts uploaded to OCAS and OUAC. It is essential to carefully review your academic records, including all eLearning courses, total credit count, and final grades. If you identify any discrepancies, please notify your guidance counsellor immediately.
Grade 12 Graduation Preparation:
Guidance counsellors have been visiting Grade 12 period 2 classes to provide important graduation information. Students must ensure they have:
- Submitted proof of 40 hours of community service
Signed the eLearning opt-out form, if they have not completed two online courses
Are you a Grade 12 student interested in returning next year? Students wishing to return should see their guidance counsellor as soon as possible to obtain an "Intent to Return" form.
NEW THIS YEAR: Minister’s Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement
The Ministry of Education has launched a new initiative to formally recognize students for their contributions to the community through volunteer service. Beginning with the graduating class of 2025–2026, students who complete 50 or more community involvement hours will be eligible to receive the Minister’s Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement.
Recognition Tiers:
Bronze Certificate: 50–99 community involvement hours
Silver Certificate: 100–199 community involvement hours
Gold Certificate: 200 or more community involvement hours
Please note that the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) requirement remains 40 hours of community involvement. These new certificates do not change the graduation requirement but provide additional recognition for students who go above and beyond in their commitment to community service.
The deadline to submit community service hours eligible to be considered towards earning a certificate is April 13th. We will continue to accept additional hours after this time towards fulfilling graduation requirements, but no additional hours will be logged towards earning a certificate.

These students travel to Canada to experience our education system, culture, and community — and you can be a meaningful part of that journey. By opening your home for three to ten months, you’ll not only support a student’s academic success, but also gain a unique opportunity to build lifelong connections and share in a rich cultural exchange.

Cell Phone Policy
We recognize the importance of technology in education; however, excessive or inappropriate use of personal mobile devices can disrupt learning and social interactions.
Students will be expected to store personal mobile devices out of sight during instructional time, except when their use is explicitly permitted by the educator. Progressive discipline measures will occur when students do not follow the expectations of the use of personal mobile devices. Exceptions will be made to the use of personal mobile devices for medical purposes and to support educational needs. Educators will plan accordingly with parents/guardians when these circumstances occur. Parents are asked to contact the main office at 613-545-1902 if they need to speak to their child during class hours.
Attendance Procedures
Attendance tracking is crucial to us at RND. The Safe Arrivals Program allows families to report their child's absence in a convenient way. Using the Safe Arrivals Program, families will be able to report daily absences, such as an illness, medical appointment, etc., and schedule absences in one of three ways:
- SchoolMessenger app
- SchoolMessenger website
- Calling toll-free 1-844-445-4383

This year's pastoral theme is "We Are Called" reminding us that we are each called as a child of God to fulfill the mandate given to us. We are called to seek justice, to love and be kind, and to walk humbly with our Lord.
Technology Access
Students can access the Virtual Commons and their D2L courses at home by visiting my.alcdsb.on.ca and signing in with their school username and password.
