⭐️ NSLA Distinguished Administrator Award goes to SRC⭐️
The Nebraska School Librarian Association honors a school administrator who has made worthy contributions to the operations of an exemplary school library and to advancing the role of the school library in the educational program.
Mr. Tucker Tejkl was this years award recipient who was nominated by Mrs. Mandy Peterson.
"It is a great honor to accept this award but it is easy to support our library and all the great things that go on within its walls because of our great leader in Mrs. Peterson! We continue to work together to make our library that is not only great for our students, staff and community members; but to make it a safe place as well for all. I thank everyone for this and I am very humble to be this years recipient."

Shelby-Rising City BEEF Club
Beef Club Donations
Hello! We are bringing back the SRC Beef Club for the 22-23 school year! What is that? We are committed to partnering with local beef producers, local ag producers, stakeholders and alumni to provide local beef to students as part of the Nutrition Program served at breakfast and lunch.
You can become a BEEF PARTNERS by donating in a number ways; it is not limited to just providing local beef. What do we need? We are in need of donations of USDA ground beef, cattle, or cash so the Beef Club can process or purchase local beef to our students.
The plan is to use the local beef for hamburger patty's in the lunch program, with extra local beef being used in meals like tacos or spaghetti!
If you are interested or need more details, please reach out to Tucker Tejkl at 402-527-5946 or ttejkl@shelby.esu7.org.
More details to come by the end of the month! Thank you!

Message from Mr. Tejkl
"Time management"
Good morning!
I hope you had a great weekend and that you enjoyed the nice, cool weather that was part of it! Take advantage of it as we know the cold winter is upon us. We will see what kind of precipitation we get but the main thing is to take advantage of the time you have with the weather we have. If you are planning on heading tomorrow night (Halloween) please make sure you are safe with your actions. Don't do anything that can risk you or others!
Quote of the week comes down to the main message of time management. How are you utilizing the day? Are there moments throughout where you have the chance to accomplish more out of the day but you decide to not take advantage of? This is a common question and challenge for people of all ages (whether you are a student to an adult). We have the opportunity given to us each day to take advantage of the time each day grants us and how to utilize that time wisely.
We have 24 hours - 1440 minutes each day. Of that, we sleep (or should) 8 hours of that - 480 minutes. That leaves us 960 minutes of being up and active. School or work, on an average from 8-4, is around 8 hours (480 minutes) within our day. Of those minutes, how much are you being on task and taking advantage of your time? Fast forward...of the 1440 minutes, we have successfully taken 960 minutes to sleep and do our jobs which leaves us 480 minutes of outside activity. This doesn't take in account of driving, activities, extra duties, etc. that are left to fill up the remaining time of our day...
In the end, how are you prioritizing your time? The reality is that time goes fast and that time is spent doing what we need to do to make a living or continue to improve. So how can we utilize the time we have? It comes down to your priorities and what you want to accomplish with the, roughly, 240 minutes that we have. While in school, utilizing that last 5 minutes of class can allow you to do less at night than throughout the day. Utilizing that plan period can help prepare for the next lab, class or week. Utilizing that break time at work can help you manage what challenges will be coming up in the evening or how to prepare for the remainder of the week. However, some days it is perfectly fine just spacing out and taking a little mental break for you as well!
We all have time that is given within a day and by no means is it easy to plan something out because of the always changing dynamic that is our world but we can do our best. Prioritize, think of the big picture and go accomplish what you want to do. Not everyday is going to be the same and some are going to be more time consuming than others but keep your goals in front of you and continue to stay on track the best you can. If you derail, no worries, the sun comes up the next day and it is always a great day to start again.
Have a great evening and I will see you tomorrow!
Quote of the week to reflect on:
"Time is what we ant most, but what we use worst."

Why WE Love SRC!!!
When "The Dude" speaks, you listen
"I think the gift of time is possibly the most precious commodity we can offer. I have taught many families through the years and teaching from the oldest to the youngest siblings in a family unit holds a high honor.
I have had those instances of teaching the children of the parents I have instructed over the years. That is how a great relationship is built.
If a student has a problem, just being there to listen, offer advice, or add a few dollars towards necessities to help them achieve greatness in a safer environment. Most never forget an act of kindness that was extended towards them." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday
Mark Nebuda
9-12 Industrial Technology Instructor
Being There
"As a superintendent, I pride myself on being in the hallways, getting in classrooms when I can, and also attending as many events that our students are a part of.
Sometimes you can see students who have a look like something isn't right. I appreciate that they will come to me when I call them over to ask them what is going on or how can I help.
It may be something that is out of my control but I believe they appreciate that someone is willing to ask what is going on or offer help. This shows them that it is okay to talk about what is on their mind and to also reach out to others who may be feeling down and out." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday

Making memories
"Some of the memories that make me the proudest to be in the field of education come from behind the scenes of the regular school day. It's the teamwork and the dedication from teachers before school, after school, or during the summer. It's the laughs in the back-to-school aisles when we run into each other because we just can't help but buy extra crayons, scissors, folders, and notebooks for students who may not have them.
It's the camaraderie from teachers and staff getting together to make tutus after school ensuring students have an awesome and unforgettable 2.22.22. Going above and beyond is something that just comes naturally for so many educators and here at Shelby-Rising City we are lucky to have the best!" #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday
Heather Thompson,
Principal
What is your Why?
"My greatest moments include seeing my former students as adults and hearing about their lives. My favorite was when a student told me that "math is no fun, but you somehow make it bearable!"
The number of relationships I have built over the years with students make each day worthwhile in the classroom. I love math and I get so excited when my students get the light bulb to click!" #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday
Becky Schueth,
High School Math
Why I love teaching!
"I had a 1st-grade student who would refuse to work and would get mad. The classroom teacher would try to talk to him but he would only get more upset. He would often come to my room to calm down and get some work done.
One day he saw I had a blanket and put it over the table. He said it was too bright in my room and proceeded to go under the table. Then, after a few minutes, he asked for his work. I asked him how he was going to see his paper and he wasn't sure. I asked if a flashlight would work and he said yes and completed his work.
When he went back to class, we shared this with the classroom teacher. She then covered one of her tables for him to do his homework when the lights were too bright. While this worked most of the time, there was one day that was really bad.
He came into my room to work and all of a sudden started tossing chairs, desks, and everything off my shelves. I took the other students to my office and shut the door and asked a para and another teacher to stay as support. I had to calm him so we sat on the floor. While we were on the floor and he started to calm down, I asked him what was wrong. He said he was hot.
So, I asked the other teacher to grab a fan and we set it so that it was blowing on him. As we continued sitting there, he told me that when his temperature changes he gets mad and can't control it. So, we came up with a plan when this starts to happen that he could use the fan in the classroom or my room to cool down. He started doing better in school and made me realize that knowing your students well helps you to be a better teacher." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday

High School Special Education
What stands out to you?
"During our book fair this year, two school employees had donated money so students who could not afford books could buy them. This is in addition to our Husky Heart program, which was funded by our change war. The two employees put their faith in me to identify those kids and put the money to good use.
One day, we had a student who was browsing, and they had that look in their eye. I didn't know about that student's situation at the time. Because of the donations of two employees, I was able to tell that student they could pick out some books from the fair. That student was so touched that they cried, and even wrote a thank you note to the donors. We were able to help many students through their donations. However, this one was particularly touching." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday

🚨Covid-19 Update for SRC🚨
Covid-19 Update for SRC
With the new CDC guidelines, we will be following what is recommended when it comes to positive cases.
Positive case by test or symptoms --- out for 5 days & can come back to school on day 6 - a mask is recommended but not required until day 10. If you have symptoms prior to a positive test, the five day count begins previous to that (ex: if symptoms Saturday but tested positive Tuesday, you may return on Thursday).
Thank you for your flexibility with this evolving situation. We continue to put the safety of our students and staff as our #1 priority. If you have any questions, comments or concerns; please contact Mr. Tejkl on his office phone or through email.
