A Message from Principal Marwah
Dear LaGuardia High School Community,
I hope this letter finds you well as we move through the first full week of October. As we settle into the rhythm of the school year, I want to take a moment to share some exciting updates and upcoming events.
Please note that we have two short weeks ahead due to Italian Heritage Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day on Monday, October 13, and Diwali on Monday, October 20. I hope these breaks provide our students and staff with time to rest and celebrate.
Since mid-September, we have been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, which will conclude next week. I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the LaGuardia High School Treble Choir for their outstanding performance at Tweed Courthouse, where they helped Chancellor Aviles-Ramos celebrate this important month. You can view a clip of their beautiful performance on Instagram or Facebook at LaGuardia.Arts. Thank you to conductor Jeanne Cascio, accompanist Chris Piro, and AP Schott for their participation and leadership.
This week, we also held our first Mix-It-Up Monday in recognition of Anti-Bullying Awareness Month. LaGuardia celebrated with a vibrant event in the 5th Floor Cafeteria during all lunch periods. Students enjoyed music, games, and the chance to make new friends, all aimed at fostering healthy socialization. The event was proudly hosted by the Counseling Support Team, creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. Thank you to AP Roach and her team from Counseling Support for making this such a wonderful experience for our students.
Looking ahead, the week of October 20 promises to be particularly exciting. We will welcome thousands of prospective students during our Open House, showcase our talented musicians in our first concert of the 2025-26 school year, and feature the remarkable talents of our faculty and staff in our first art exhibition of the year. I encourage all of you to participate in these events and experience what makes LaGuardia so special.
As always, I am inspired by the creativity, talent, and community spirit that define LaGuardia High School. Thank you for your continued dedication to making our school a place where every student can thrive and shine.
With pride and appreciation,
Principal Marwah

Information and News
There is a lot of information covered in the Period 3 Morning Announcements that sometimes it is hard to remember something that has been said. The working document that the student presenters use is available for everyone to read. The Morning Announcements can be found on the school website by going to the Student navigation button on the navigation bar and select "Student Government Organization".
Cell Phone/Electronic Device Update
Any electronic device is to be used in a classroom with teacher permission as part of a lesson. Laptops and tablets are not to be used in the hallways or cafeterias.
School Store
When you visit "STORE" at the top of our homepage, you can make payments using credit cards for Yonder Pouch replacement and Student ID Card replacement.
Families and graduates can purchase some new, not-available-at-school LaG Swag with the proceeds going to our Parents Association.
Students needing copies of their transcript should speak to their Guidance Counselor. Graduates and non-current LaG students must purchase copies of their transcript using the Transcript Request Form.
Clubs Begin Next Week
Club meetings officially begin next week. We are incredibly thankful to our Parents Association for providing funding for our club program. This is a great time for us to explain our club program:
- Clubs are student-run. The advisor's level of involvement varies depending on the club/advisor.
- To join most clubs, just show up to the meeting. If you like it, go back!
- If you don't like a club, stop going and find a new one.
- An advisor must be present for the club to meet. If the advisor cannot make a meeting, the club does not meet that day. Sometimes it is not possible to give advanced notice.
- Students participating in clubs must exit the building by 4:30 PM.
LaG-O'Ween
Start Planning for LaG O'ween
LaG O'ween, er...Halloween, at LaGuardia Arts has always been a special day with unique traditions. Students and staff dress up in costumes highlighting that special creativity that sets LaGuardia apart from all other schools. Many members of the staff have expressed a strong desire to maintain the creative aspects of our LaG O'ween tradition. As usual, we want you to celebrate your creativity; however, please be aware that, at the same time, we expect you to be respectful of others and still adhere to the rules and regulations of the school and the NYCPS.
For your own personal safety and security, you are advised not to wear your costume to or from school, but to bring your costume in a bag. The locker rooms will open at 7:45 AM, so you can change into your costume before first period begins. The locker rooms will be open again at 3:39 PM for you to change out of costume. And if you don't want to wear a costume...wear an orange, purple, green, or black shirt.
What is not permissible?
- Faces must be recognizable. You may not wear a mask that covers your face. Face paint and makeup are allowed, as long as you’re still recognizable.
- Costumes must be appropriate for school. You may not wear a costume which is considered to be lewd, indecent, or offensive or one that interferes with the educational process. These include costumes which depict terrorists, religious figures, or any costume deemed to be sexually explicit.
- Students dressed inappropriately will be required to change into street clothes and their families notified, or a family member must bring you home.
- You may not bring outsiders to school.
- Follow school/NYCPS Rules. You may not have any item in school that is normally not allowed in school, namely cigarettes, lighters, handcuffs, masks, weapons or any other object with the potential to cause harm to oneself or to others, regardless of their authenticity. Such items will be confiscated and, depending on the item, may not be returned.
- Attend your classes. Students cannot leave class without a pass for any reason. Deans and security agents will be out patrolling the halls on that day looking for students who are not complying with school regulations.

Dear New York: Start Spreading the News
Hailed as the largest public art installation in New York City in decades...
We are thrilled to share some exciting news that highlights the incredible talent of our students. Several of our photography students from LaGuardia have been selected to showcase their work in Dear New York—a first-of-its-kind immersive art experience created by Humans of New York photographer Brandon Stanton.
The student exhibition will be held in Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall from October 6, to October 19. Please note that the exhibition will be closed on Saturday, October 11, for a separate event, and will reopen the following Sunday.
Hailed as the largest public art installation in New York City in decades, Dear New York has transformed the entire Grand Central Terminal, replacing all advertising for two weeks in a sweeping visual celebration of the city’s people.
Brandon Stanton, Humans of New York Photographer, shared this personal message for our students:
Thank you again for contributing your art to Dear New York. Every one of you is now an official artist who will be featured in a major exhibition, and you should feel very proud of this accomplishment. Your work will have a powerful impact and you have played a major role in making this historic art installation possible.
A giant Lion thank you to Ms. Sobala, Fine Arts teacher, for coordinating student work for the exhibit.
