What's Happening at Western?
Dear Western Families,
What a fantastic start to the school year! The first few days of school have been filled with high energy, big smiles, and immediate connections across all our classrooms.
I am happy to share that our opening days ran remarkably smoothly, from morning drop-offs and classroom routines to lunch periods and dismissal. Seeing our students dive right back to school mode has been refreshing to see. Our entire faculty and staff are thrilled with how seamlessly everyone transitioned back to campus, and we are genuinely looking forward to an incredible, productive year ahead.
As we settle into our daily routines, please take a moment to review a few important updates and reminders below.

Lunch Forms
If your child should receive free and reduced lunch please fill out the Application and Addendum A form. Last year’s qualification will expire on October 1st, unless you have already been directly certified. Forms can be submitted online to the district or dropped off in the Main Office. If you have a question regarding your current lunch status, please reach out to Taryn_Weiss@greenwich.k12.ct.us.
- Attendance Line: If your child will be absent or arrive at school late, please call the Attendance Line at 203-531-5678 by 9:00am and leave a message with his/her name, grade, and the reason for their absence.
- GPS Withdrawals: If you are receiving this email and your child is not attending Western Middle School this year, it is because you have not withdrawn. Please fill out the GPS Withdrawal Form as soon as possible.
- PTA Supply Kits: The PTA is still working on compiling the supplies. They will be distributed at the beginning of next week to students who ordered.
The beginning of the school year is also prime "sign and return forms" time. Please take a few moments to visit the Back To School page of the website to review all of the information and return the following forms with your signature.

We are so happy to see everyone again... and we are excited about reading, technology & learning for the new year!
Students will visit the LMC with their ELA classes within the next two weeks to do a quick Orientation and their first independent Book Selection of the year; thereafter, students may visit the LMC before school or during any period with their teacher's permission and a Class Pass. Please note that books must be returned or renewed after two weeks. Students will receive an email reminder when a book is due back in the LMC, but we appreciate your help in ensuring that books are returned in a timely manner so we can serve all of our readers most effectively!
As you know, students have a Chromebook for school assignments; it is very important that your child keep the Chromebook in good shape, free of stickers and pencil/pen marks, and that he/she charges it fully every night. Help us help our students be successful by finding a great spot to charge... where they will remember it in the morning! If your child forgets his/her Chromebook, you may drop it off at the Enable Table in the Main Office.
The information needed to register your child for a fall sport is below. There is also still time to get that last minute doctor’s appointment to get an updated physical if needed. Fall sports include boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, field hockey and co-ed volleyball. Tryouts will be held Sept 8th, 10th and 11th. Please complete the online registration form prior to September 4th. NO registration will be accepted after September 4th.
For those who are new to Final Forms, the link provides detailed instructions on how the registration process works. This guide will walk you through each step, making it easy to register your student-athlete for fall sports. For any inquiries regarding sports please email sportsphysicalwms@greenwich.k12.ct.us.
A student athlete must have a current State of CT Health Assessment Record (HAR) form on file with the Western Middle School Health Office prior to participation. For sports participation, this form is good for 13 months and must be valid at the time of tryouts and throughout the season.
