Aviation STEM and Innovation Science & Technology Programs Come to Hoboken High School

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On Monday, the Hoboken Public School District hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to open two new state-of-the-art labs at Hoboken High School.

An all new Aviation STEM Program will offer students a dynamic curriculum through the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, providing them with pathways to become a pilot or commercial drone operator. These pathways will be supported by highly trained staff, a partnership with Morristown Airport, Internships, and flight hours earned on FAA Certified Flight Simulators.

Right next door, Hoboken High School Students will learn in spectacular Innovation Science & Technology Lab which will take them through the process of analyzing problems in society, generating solutions, designing and manufacturing, patenting, and marketing.

These programs, funded in part by a generous donation from the Hoboken Public Education Foundation and a large grant awarded by Project Lead The Way, will provide our high school students with unique 21st Century learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom.

In an effort to introduce our middle school and elementary school students to both programs and labs, the Hoboken Public School District will be offering a series of micro institutes. These institutes will get our younger students into these labs and working with our teachers and students.

The Aviation Micro Institute is for students in 4th and 5th grades, as well as for those in 6th through 12th grades. Activities on a variety of Saturdays and Sundays include Drone Racing and Operation and Airplane Simulator Experiences.

The Innovation Science and Technology Micro Institute is for students in Kindergarten and 1st grades, 2nd and 3rd grades, and 4th through 8th grades. Activities on a number of Saturday and Sundays include Mini and Junior Maker Space Sessions, Marble Roller Coaster and Cardboard Boat Challenges, Rube Goldberg Creations, and 3D Printing and Onshape Sessions.
