Dear Families,
The FOWE meeting this week was, as always, so interesting and enjoyable. It really is a good opportunity for parents to just come together, as well as a time to ask questions, learn upcoming FOWE events, about day to day life in the school, as well as district and state levels planning. A very rich conversation!
Managing Screen Time - Wednesday, October 22th, 6-7:30
FOWE is hosting a night to get together and discuss the topic of screen time. This night was originally inspired by the book The Anxious Generation, but we do not expect or need anyone to read the book before coming! Please come as you are, ready to swap stories, ask questions, share trials and tribulations, as well as your successful strategies for managing this reality of modern parenting.
Free pizza and childcare with RSVP.
Conferences: The goals for these conferences are for teachers to connect with you about your child, set and share goals and report progress to date. This year they will also be sharing the fall FastBridge benchmark assessments in mathematics and literacy. If you haven’t been able to schedule a conference yet, please be in touch with your students teacher.
Halloween - what to expect: The annual costume parade will begin at approximately 2:10pm on the blacktop or in the Common Room, depending on the weather, Friday, October 31st. Students will get into costumes between 1:50 and 2:05pm. (Costumes and makeup are not allowed earlier in the day.) Wearing a costume or being in the parade is, of course, optional for students.
We encourage imaginative, homemade costumes with maximum child involvement in the making of them. Weapons or dangerous accessories are to be left at home. We also request that students not wear costumes that objectify and stereotype racial or ethnic identity, for example, dressing as a Native American. In addition, please keep in mind the age-range of students (K-5) and moderate the degree of grim and gruesome your child dons for the occasion.
We hope you'll join us for the festivities, in costume if you’d like. It is always wonderful to experience the children’s capacity to imagine themselves into a character. Cider and donuts will be provided for all students and families after the parade in the Common Room.
Lunch help: Once again we need a volunteer for Wednesday next week! If you would like to volunteer, please sign up on this calendar. The next several weeks are filling up, but there are still days not covered. If you can look ahead and sign up through October it would be greatly appreciated. Your help is valuable! At the FOWE meeting, parents who have volunteered shared how much fun it was.
Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org or call if you have any questions (802-545-3301).
Have a lovely weekend. Best, Christina
Students are happy to discover the stream once again has (some) water flowing
