Welcome to April Lieck Families!

Welcome to April! We are rapidly approaching the end of the school year, and we know how quickly time flies, it will be here before we know it! Thank you parents for your continued support in helping your child achieve and master all of their goals. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions about how to help your child finish the year strong!

Campus Safety Reminder for Families

At our school, the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain a secure environment for everyone. Please take a moment to review these important reminders:

  • Student Drop-Off: To ensure a safe and efficient arrival, please use the main drop-off loop and pull forward to the furthest available car sign. Students should not be dropped off in the parking lot. Additionally, for everyone’s safety, parents must walk their child across the crosswalk. We also kindly ask that you leave handicap parking spaces available for those who need them and avoid parking in red zone areas at all times.
  • Secure Entry: When entering or exiting the building, please ensure that doors close completely behind you. Do not allow others to enter without checking in through the front office.
  • Visitor Badges: All visitors are required to wear a visitor badge at all times while on campus. Badges should be clearly visible throughout your visit.
  • Lunch Visits: Families are welcome to join their child for lunch; however, visitors may only eat with their own child at the designated community table.

Thank you for your partnership and support in helping keep our campus accessible and safe!

Report Cards for 3rd Grading Cycle on HAC: We encourage parents/guardians to log into HAC to view your child's progress on the most recent grading cycle. Additionally progress Reports will be sent home mid-April. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions or would like to schedule a conference to review progress.

Data Validation for Next Year: If you haven't done so already, please be sure to log into your HAC account to verify your data for next school year. You should have received a Data Verification email for the 2026-2027 school year. If you need help with your HAC account, please go to the Home Access Center support page at nisd.net/parents or call our front office at 210- 398-1450. It is very important that this be completed as soon as possible in order to save your child's spot for the next school year. As an added bonus, teachers with 100% data verification (registration) complete, may win a prize! Thank you for your support parents!

April is the Month of the Military Child: April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize and celebrate the resilience and strength of students whose families serve in the armed forces.

Military-connected students bring courage, adaptability, and leadership to our campus, often navigating unique challenges with grace. We are proud to honor them and encourage our community to show appreciation throughout the month. To our military families, thank you for your service and sacrifice. We are honored to support your children every day!

Week of the Young Child: We are excited to celebrate the Week of the Young Child during the week of April 13-17th a special time dedicated to honoring our youngest learners and the joy they bring to our school community! Throughout the week, we will have fun and engaging dress-up opportunities for our students to participate in. Please be sure to refer to the attached flyer for details on each day’s theme and how your child can join in the celebration. We look forward to a joyful week full of learning, creativity, and fun!

Fundraiser Update: Thank you for your incredible support in making our recent fundraiser such a success! Because of your generosity, we raised an amazing $18,050! That is OUTSTANDING!! Thank you!! These funds will have a direct and meaningful impact on our students. They will help us purchase much-needed items for the school, including grade-level instructional materials, additional recess seating areas, recess equipment, student incentives, and so much more. Your contributions will enhance the learning environment and overall experience for every child on our campus. Thank you for your support!!

Lost and Found: Our Lost and Found is currently overflowing with sweaters, jackets, and other items that have been left behind. We encourage you to stop by and take a look—your child may be missing something! Please note that all unclaimed items will be cleared out and donated on Friday, April 17th. Thank you for your help in keeping our campus organized and ensuring items are returned to their owners.

Thank you and may you have a blessed month ahead!

Sincerely,

Jessica Garza

Principal

Attendance Attendance

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map Show in original size

We ended our 24-25 school year with 94.55% attendance school wide and our 24-25 goal was 96%. This year, our goal is to increase student attendance from 94.55% to 96% or more overall.

Students earn classroom incentives for attendance as well as school wide incentives for reaching 96% attendance as a campus. Below are some of the incentives they earn.

Individual Classrooms

  • 1st Round = Tech Time (20 minutes)

  • 2nd Round = STEM Time (20 minutes)

  • 3rd Round = Admin Surprise

  • 4th Round = Makerspace in the Library (20 minutes)

  • 5th Round = Popsicles

  • 6th Round = Extra Recess (20 minutes)

School Wide Celebrations

Each day we reach 96% or higher, we will display a letter to spell out LIECK. Each time we spell out LIECK, all students will get to do the following:

1st time - School Wide Pajamas / Slippers for Students & Staff (appropriate wear)

2nd time - Favorite Team Attire Day

3rd Time - Comfy Day (bring a stuffy / blanket and wear sweats or comfy pants)

4th Time - Extra Recess (20 minutes, inside or outside, per teacher decision)

SB 12 Parent Consent Form

Dear Parent:

The 89th Texas Legislative Session passed Senate Bill 12, which requires all Texas public schools to obtain annual parental consent for routine physical and mental health services.

On September 10th, the district sent out an email to the parent listed as "guardian one" in eSchool. That parent received an email for each child that attends a northside school. Each email will contain a unique link for that specific student. To comply with this new law, we need you to indicate your consent preference in the unique link for your child. If you have other children enrolled in the district, you will receive a separate email for each of them. The subject line of the email is titled New parental consent requirements.

This consent form describes the routine physical and mental health services provided at the school. In the future, this consent process will be part of our annual data verification.

Thank you for your help as we implement this new requirement.

Please complete the consent form as soon as possible so that we have the most current information on file.

I'm also including a link to the district website for more information nisd.net/district/whole-child/parental-consent-forms

Respectfully,

Jessica Garza

Principal

Udpate Your Child's Immunizations

Texas law requires all public school children to have current immunizations to attend class. Northside ISD encourages parents to have their children immunized before the first day of school.

For more information please visit https://www.nisd.net/schools/health/vaccinations

A Word from the Nurse

The school nurse does not diagnose illnesses but takes notes of the symptoms and notifies the parent/guardian of the observations. If a child becomes ill or injured at school, the student will be assessed and given first aid, and the parent/guardian will be notified if the severity of the injury or illness warrants such action.

Children should be kept at home when ill and are expected to be free of fever (temperature less than 100.0° F) and free of communicable diseases in order to attend school. In accordance with the Texas Administrative Code, students are required to be excluded from school until fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications. The Texas Department of State Health Services defines fever as a temperature of 100.0°F or greater. This is important for the health of the child and for the health of all children at the school.

Student Dress Code

The NISD Board of Trustees approved revisions to the District’s dress code policies for the 2025-2026 school year. The new policy allows for the wearing of shorts by all students (Pre-K -12) as long as the shorts are mid-thigh length or longer. As with the previous policy, the final determination of acceptable dress and grooming rests with the campus principal or his/her designee. Guidelines for the new dress and grooming policy are available in the linked file.
