Week 2

August 18 - August 22, 2025

Week 2August 18 - August 22, 2025

Multnomah Street Elementary Multnomah Street Elementary

Dear Students, Parents, and Multnomah Community,

We had a wonderful first week of school. We rolled out the red carpet and welcomed all of our eagles! We had almost 100% perfect attendance. Keep up the great work! This week we will have some emergency drills so students will know what to do in a real emergency.

1. Continue to have conversations with your children about what to expect during an emergency.

2. Have a safety plan for your family.

3. Make sure your emergency cards are updated.

Fun and important things are happening everyday! I've been seeing the fun videos, messages and pictures on Class Dojo. Are you all signed up with your child's teacher/class? Don't miss out on important information. Stay connected on Class Dojo. If you're not connected, ask your child's teacher for the code to join.

On Monday we will have a behavior assembly to review school expectations. Please ask your child what they learn from the assembly on Monday afterschool.

Remember, parents are no longer allowed to come onto campus before the bell. Students are expected to walk onto campus on their on. Please have that conversation with our little eagles on how to be brave. We got this!

In Partnership,

Principal Melgar

Birthdays Birthdays

At Multnomah, we announce our birthdays of the week through the classroom speakers (PA system). We invite the students to the main office for a special photo and small gift. (Please let us know if you want your child excluded.)

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

With a minimum of 24-hour notice and teacher’s approval, you may bring store purchased individually packaged food or goodie bags to share with your child’s classmates during the last 5 minutes of the school day. PLEASE DO NOT SHOW UP THE DAY OF YOUR CHILD’S BIRTHDAY UNANNOUNCED WITHOUT HAVING MADE PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS WITH THE TEACHER WITH THE EXPECTATION TO CELEBRATE OR VISIT THE CLASSROOM. While your child’s birthday is very important, so are the instructional minutes for all the students.

No home-made food can be distributed. Please do not send store purchased food that is difficult to hand out. Store purchased cupcakes and donuts must be individually packaged and should all be the same for ease of passing out. Your child has a LOT of classmates. If they are not individually packed, they will not be passed out. It must be dropped off by parents and not a delivery service. No Pizza. Be aware we have children with food allergies and/or are lactose intolerant.

If making goodie bags, do not include candies, chips or anything with nuts. Healthy snacks and school supplies are recommended.

Parent Handbook Parent Handbook

We are sending home with to all students the abridged parent handbook on Monday (green cover.)

For all new students we are also sending home the long version (white cover.)

Please read it and keep it handy for reference.

Valet services will be available before and after school for grades 1-5 students at the main gate.

If you are walking up to pick up or drop off your child, please wait on the left side of the main gate. Please do not stand on the valet side as it makes it difficult for students to make their way to the waiting cars.

The right side should always be clear.

Plesae avoid doing any of the following:

*Do not make a U-Turn anywhere in front of the school after you drop off your child.

*Do not double park and leave your vehicle unattended.

*Do not double park and beckon/honk at your child to come you.

*Do not double park and let someone out of the car to retrieve your child.

*Do not loiter in the middle of traffic. Please be considerate.

Everyone has somewhere to be and SAFETY is KEY.

Thank you for your continued support at dismissal.

  • Walk up parents, please move to the left of the main gate. Students need a clear path to walk to their awaiting cars. Please support the safety of our children.
  • Driving parents: Clearly have your child's name on the dashboard. We do not know all the vehicles or parents yet.

Beyond the Bell Beyond the Bell

New Year, New Application

Last week there were students who were not picked up at dismissal and not in the program. It's not fair for the students to have to sit and wait for so long. The main office is a place of business. Please promptly pick up your children. If you cannot come, we will call your emergency contact.

The afterschool program is on our site but it is a separate program from Multnomah. We cannot admit your children to the program. Only Coach Claudia can. If you just filled out an application, Coach Claudia will you within 1-2 days to confirm placement. That is their protocol. She can be reached at 818-808-3361.

This year, there is only YDP. YS is not available. Students are expected to stay until 5:45. Latest pick-up is 6:00 pm. For questions, please speak to the program.

For everyone else who already did this, thank you! Thank you for promptly taking care of business to help our students thrive.

If you have already signed the consent form on the Parent Portal, thank you! This year, the district is requiring that every parent log onto the Parent Portal to approve or deny student' Google Access. That is the easiest and quickest way. Please read over the disclosure and decide if you agree or disagree for consent and then type in your name.

Steps:

  1. Log into your parent portal app on your phone or click here.
  2. Click on student menu.
  3. Click on Student Google Consent.
  4. Scroll to the bottom.
  5. Click yes (first one) if you give consent. OR click no (second one) if you don't.
  6. Type in your name.
  7. Hit submit.

Coloring Books Coloring Books

There is a big group of students who prefer to sit and socialize over playing in the play areas. We have designated an area on both yards for sitting and chatting. It is nicely shaded. We are asking for any donation of new coloring books that we can provide to our students for coloring at recess and lunch breaks. You can send donations with students or drop them off in the main office. 😀
