The Weekly Update #4
July 12th, 2024

August 2025
Each month RES will send out a link on Class Dojo and School Cast to a digital newsletter like this one. (Other than our August newsletter, you can expect the newsletter around the first day of each month.) This newsletter will keep you informed of all the happenings and events at our school for that month. If you would like to request a paper copy of the newsletter, or if you have any questions about anything in the newsletter, please email Cathy Cooper, the Parent Involvement Coordinator, at ccooper.res@catoosa.k12.ga.us.

Upcoming Events
Full STEAM Ahead with Mrs. Nepp
Welcome to new and old friends!
We have hit the ground running and have been adjusting really well to new schedules and routines.
3rd grade was introduced to lab rules and safety procedures. They also learned the college word of the day. If your child has not told you yet, ask to see if they remember.
4th grade began learning about the Scientific Method and how we use the same logic and procedure to solve problems.
5th grade began learning about different science tools and equipment. They should be able to recognize them and know how to use them.
Music Notes from Mrs. Roach
4th and 5th grade students interested in trying out for the Ringgold Singers school chorus, please pick up a permission slip from Mrs. Roach. Auditions are August 29 during connections classes.

Fall Survey
On August 19th, each RES student will receive a Title 1 Fall Survey in their take-home folder. Please complete this brief survey, and return it to school by August 29th. As a thank you, all students who return the survey by this date will receive a treat!
Annual Meeting
On August 20, we will send out a link to our Title 1 Annual Meeting. When you click on the link, you will find information about the RES Title 1 program, including:
- an overview of what it means to be a Title 1 school
- how Title 1 benefits ALL RES students, teachers, and parents
- how RES uses our Title 1 funds to support ALL students and staff
Please be sure to view this digital document, and fill out the attached sign-in sheet by August 29th.
We value our home-school partnership and this survey gives you this opportunity to help us with decision making at our school! We will use the information gathered from this survey to determine which family events we will host this year and to provide you with any information requested relating to your child and their education. It also helps us determine the best times and methods to conduct parent meetings.
Volunteer Orientation
If you are interested in being a volunteer at RES this school year, please make plans to attend our Volunteer Orientation. It will be held at the school on August 28th. Look for more information and a RSVP to come home in your child's Tuesday take home folder soon.
Free & Reduced Lunch
A flyer like the one below will come home in Tuesday folders on August 19. Please consider applying for Free & Reduced Lunch. It can help you, and it helps our school as well!

PBIS Events Letter
In case you missed it, the following letter came home this week in Tuesday folders. If you have not had a chance, please sign and return the letter. Thank you!
Dear Parents/Guardian,
As you know we LOVE to celebrate students who display good behavior, grades, and attendance with a reward event every nine weeks! To qualify for each PBIS event, students must have the following: (1) All A’s, B’s, and C’s on their report cards; (2) No more than 3 unexcused absences; (3) No Office Discipline Referrals (ODR). We value clear communication and transparency, so it’s important to make sure you are aware of the qualifications to attend a PBIS event listed above and the behavioral ODR process listed below.
There are two categories for behavior referrals:
For all Minor Behaviors, we reteach and then go to a “three strikes” system:
First, we provide a verbal warning and a teachable moment with the student using the behavior matrix. Our goal is to keep the student on track for success!
Next, “Three Strikes and You’re Out” begins: The next instance will be documented in our PBIS Rewards program under one of the following expectations: Being Respectful, Being Engaged, and Being Safe. The student will be re-taught the expectation, and you will be contacted by the teacher.
If the behavior continues, we repeat the same process, and you will be contacted by the teacher again. We still use this as a teachable moment with your child using the behavior matrix.
Finally: If the behavior continues, it results in a “Third Strike and You’re Out.” The teacher will write this up in an Office Discipline Referral (ODR) form and turn it over to an administrator to contact you. At this point, the student is unable to attend the 9 weeks PBIS event.
(Examples of minor behaviors: running in the hall, poor behavior in the cafeteria, silly/off task during instruction time, etc)
Major behaviors are automatic Office Discipline Referrals (ODR) and are generally classified as those that put others in danger, such as physical aggression.
We believe in fresh starts, so every nine weeks we wipe the slate clean, and all students have a new opportunity to earn the next event. Thank you for working with us to help your child succeed, and please reach out with any questions!

Please join us in congratulating our 2024-2025 Teacher & Parapro of the Year!
Teacher of the Year: Heather Coulter
Mrs. Coulter teaches 3rd grade. This is her 25th year teaching and 20 of those have been at RES. She taught Sp. Ed. for 17 years and in 2018 switched to General Ed. She attended Catoosa County schools growing up: Battlefield Elem., Lakeview Jr. High, and LFO High School. She loves to teach reading and writing to 3rd graders. She has taught grades 3-5 here at RES, but loves 3rd grade the best! She is married to Shaun and has 2 sons, Crosby and Deacon. They love to spend time outside, play arcade games, and cook together. Crosby is in 8th grade and Deacon is in 6th grade at Heritage Middle School. Both her boys play basketball and Crosby plays football, so they spend a lot of time watching their boys play sports!
Parapro of the Year: Patty Epps
Mrs. Epps has been a parapro at Ringgold Elementary for 5 years. Before that she was a substitute teacher and had a daycare in her home. She has been married for almost 19 years and has 3 children and 4 grandchildren. She loves coffee and the color purple. When she is not working, she loves to read and take walks outside!
We are so proud of Mrs. Coulter and Mrs. Epps and are so lucky to have them at our school! They definitely live out our school motto: "Only the BEST at RES!"
