Gratitude & Transitions Gratitude & Transitions

PCHS Community,

As we close another school year, we do so feeling incredibly grateful. Thank you for the trust you place in us each day. As parents, guardians, and caregivers, you send us the people who matter most to you, and we never lose sight of the responsibility that comes with that.

One of the greatest privileges of this work is having the opportunity to watch students grow, not just academically, but as people. Over the course of a year, we see them take risks, overcome challenges, discover new interests, build friendships, and continue figuring out who they are and who they want to become. Being part of that journey is both humbling and inspiring.

As we celebrate the accomplishments of this year, we also want to recognize an important transition within our school community. After three years of dedicated service to PCHS and a career spent supporting students, Mr. Frank McMurray is retiring. We are grateful for the care, leadership, and commitment he has brought to our students, staff, and families as the Assistant Principal of PCHS and Principal of The Link Alternative High School. We wish Mr. McMurray all the best in this well-earned next chapter. At the same time, we are excited to welcome Mr. Daniel Ferreira as our new Assistant Principal. He will officially join us later this summer, and we look forward to introducing him more fully in the months ahead and welcoming him to the PCHS community.

To our returning families, thank you for your partnership and support throughout the year. To our incoming Class of 2030 and their families, welcome to PCHS! We are excited to have you join our school community and look forward to getting to know you in the years ahead.

While summer offers a well-deserved opportunity to rest, recharge, and make memories, please know that we are here if you need us. We are already looking forward to welcoming our students back in August for another year of learning, growth, connection, and opportunity.

Have a wonderful summer!

Mrs. McBride

Mr. Frank McMurray

This year, PCHS says goodbye to three remarkable educators whose impact on our students, staff, and community will be felt long after they leave our halls.

Mrs. Mary Bogardus became a lifeline for students and colleagues alike. Whether through her steady presence in the Pirate Union, her support of those around her, or her commitment to lifelong learning, Mary consistently made our school a better place. She leaves behind a strong foundation in the Pirate Union and countless people who are grateful for her care and wisdom.

Mr. Frank McMurray spent the final three years of his distinguished career with us, and we are better because of it. Frank has an uncanny ability to connect with people, making students, staff, and families feel seen and valued. His leadership, mentorship, sense of humor, and love for life have left a lasting mark on our school community.

Mr. Tom Hermann has served Pinckney Community Schools since 1999 and leaves behind a true legacy. A beloved teacher, innovative thinker, and champion for meaningful mathematics education, Tom created learning experiences students still talk about years later. Whether launching new course pathways, riding his gravel bike to demonstrate a mathematical concept, or celebrating a student's "light bulb moment" with a loud horn, Tom made learning memorable, relevant, and uniquely his own.

Together, Mary, Frank, and Tom represent decades of service, dedication, and care for students. We thank them for all they have given to PCHS and wish them nothing but happiness in the adventures ahead.

Students who successfully complete their summer courses will earn a letter grade, which will be reflected on their high school transcript, calculated into their GPA, and will replace the original failing grade.

Summer school information can also be found on the high school website.

Student & Staff Member of the Week! Student & Staff Member of the Week!

Every week, students and staff have the opportunity to nominate a peer and PCHS staff member for recognition in the school, and for the student, recognition in The Livingston Daily. Nominations are based on how fellow Pirates are demonstrating the character strengths we prioritize in Pinckney Community Schools. Our Leadership & Link Crew class reviews nominations and selects each week's honorees. Enjoy learning about our excellent Pirates!!

PCHS Monthly STRENGTH: Teamwork PCHS Monthly STRENGTH: Teamwork

Across the month of May, we will capitalize on opportunities to put the character strength of TEAMWORK to work as a school community, during Seminar, class time, and in the day-to-day of our building. Take advantage of opportunities to touch upon this strength at home! In the image below, you can see the rationale for why the Leadership Class selected this strength to be the focus at this time in our school year.

Want to engage with this character strength at home? Check out this family resource page: https://posproject.org/p2-for-families/9-12/teamwork/ You’ll find a quote, video, and questions to help you and your children discuss The Positivity Project’s character strength of teamwork.
