March 2025 NEWSLETTER (Vol. 3, Issue 6)
Letter from the Superintendent
Dear Tiger Community,
Each spring, students across Missouri take part in state assessments that give us valuable insights into learning and growth. These tests help guide our instruction and district planning—and most importantly, they help us support each student’s success.
This year, the following students will participate:
- Grades 3–8: MAP tests in English Language Arts and Math
- Grades 5 and 8: MAP Science assessment
- High School students: End-of-Course (EOC) exams in required subjects
Here in St. James, testing will take place on the dates below:
Testing Dates:
- Lucy Wortham James Elementary: April 29–May 9
- St. James Middle School: April 28–May 9
- St. James High School: April 28–May 9
To help your child do their best, make sure they get plenty of rest, eat a good breakfast, and stay positive. A calm, confident mindset goes a long way. We also ask families to avoid scheduling appointments or absences during testing days if possible. And while these assessments are important, so is your child’s well-being. Our counselors and staff are always here to support students who may feel anxious or overwhelmed. You can find wellness resources at: St. James R-1 Student Wellness
Thank you for your continued support in helping GREAT things happen here.
Tim Webster
Superintendent
St. James R-1 School District

⚡The Quest Came to Life—The Lightning Thief Was a Hit!⚡
Tiger Drama students from all three buildings lit up the stage with The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical! Middle schoolers and 2nd–5th graders from Lucy Wortham James Elementary got a special VIP preview before the show opened to the public.
Performances ran April 10–12, and audiences were swept away to Camp Half-Blood for an unforgettable adventure. From impressive vocals to creative staging, our students proved once again that GREAT things happen here—especially under the stage lights!
Extra! Extra! Learning Through Fashion and History!
Middle school students in Mrs. Watson's history class recently took part in an exciting team-building activity focused on material culture, exploring how clothing reflects different societies. Teams selected from seven historical eras and used newspaper to design and create outfits inspired by those times! This hands-on learning experience sparked creativity while deepening their understanding of history.
LWJE Singers Represent with Pride!
Tigers from our 4th and 5th grade Singers group took their talents to Dixon, MO, for the Elementary Honor Choir! They spent the day learning from a clinician from Nixa, collaborating with students from other schools, and bringing four beautiful songs to life in concert.
Experiences like this strengthen skills, build relationships, and create lasting memories—just one more way we empower students to learn and grow. GREAT things happen here!
