Bryn Mawr Bulletin
November 2025

Note from Mrs. Beverly
Dear Families,
Thank you for all being phenomenal collaborators in your child's education. We are lucky to have families that value education and send in students that are excited to learn most of the time! Here are a few tidbits I would like to share this month :)
- Classroom teachers have sent out notification through Parent Square to sign up for Parent-Teacher conferences on November 10th. Please sign up to discuss your child's progress i you haven't had a chance to yet. You may reach out to your child's teacher if for some reason you missed the sign up!
- Attendance letters were distributed to any student that had 5 or more absences, tardies and / or dismissals so far in Trimester 1.
- Thank you to all of our families for their support at the PTO Boosterthon with cheering our students on at the event, donations and pumping up our students to give their best effort.
- A shout out to our families that were there to celebrate literacy with our students at the Storybook Parade.
- If you would like to send in candy donations from trick-or-treating, please send them in a bag and we will donate items on your behalf!
- On November 14th, we will be sending home a family survey that asks for your feedback. Be on the lookout for the notification and link to take the survey.
- Remember to find times to read together as a family- modeling reading and having conversations with your child about what they read and vocabulary in the text and having them practice reading if they are able to.
- Check out the list of ways to practice math facts below.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Beverly
Fall Themed Ways to Practice Math Facts!
🍎 Apple-Themed Ideas
-
Apple Orchard Toss – Label paper apples with addition or subtraction facts. Toss a small beanbag onto one and solve the problem it lands on.
-
Apple Picking Math – Cut out apples, write equations on them, and hide them around a room. Kids “pick” an apple, solve it, and place it in the correct basket labeled with the sum or difference.
-
Apple Number Sentences – Use red and green pom-poms (apples) to make math stories: “3 red + 2 green = ?”
🎃 Pumpkin-Themed Ideas
-
Pumpkin Patch Problems – Write math facts on orange paper pumpkins. Mix them in a pile (“patch”) and have children pick and solve.
-
Roll and Grow a Pumpkin – Roll two dice, add or subtract, and draw parts of a pumpkin (stem, eyes, mouth) for each correct answer until the picture is complete.
-
Pumpkin Seeds Counting – Use real or paper seeds to show addition or subtraction within 10 or 20.
🍁 Leaf & Nature Ideas
-
Leaf Number Hunt – Write numbers or facts on paper leaves, scatter them, and have children find matches to make true equations.
-
Falling Leaves Equations – Cut out leaves, each with one part of an equation (like 4 + 3, 7). Drop them from above—catch and match!
-
Leaf Rake & Solve – Tape math problems on paper leaves; children “rake” (collect) them into piles labeled with the correct answers.
🌰 Acorn & Forest Friends Ideas
-
Acorn Equations – Write equations on paper acorns; hide them for a scavenger hunt. Each time a child finds one, they solve it and record their answers.
-
Squirrel’s Snack Match – Make pairs: one card shows an equation, another shows the sum/difference. Children match them to “feed the squirrel.”
-
Acorn Roll & Solve – Roll two dice, add or subtract, and color in that many acorns on a worksheet until the page is full.
🧣 Cozy Fall & Harvest Ideas
-
Scarecrow Math Dress-Up – Add a scarecrow piece (hat, shirt, straw, etc.) for each correct equation solved.
-
Cider Stand Math – Pretend play: use toy coins to “buy” cups of cider or donuts by solving math facts shown on a price tag.
-
Fall Family Flashcard Walk – Take a nature walk and practice facts aloud—each time a child solves one correctly, they collect a leaf, pinecone, or rock for a “math treasure jar.”
Boosterthon Update- So Close!
As of Thursday night, we were about $1,000 away from the Auburn PTO Boosterthon fundraising goal. The donation site is up for one final week. Let's work together to crush this goal to ensure that our students get to have field trips, enrichment programs, special events, and funds for classroom projects through teacher requests.

News From The Nurse Keeping Germs Away — The Power of Handwashing!
As cold and flu season begins, it's the perfect time to talk about one of the simplest and most effective ways to stay healthy — proper handwashing! Germs spread quickly in schools, but with clean hands, we can keep ourselves and others safe from illness.
✋ When Should You Wash Your Hands?
Before eating or preparing food
After using the bathroom
After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
If your hands are visibly soiled
After touching shared objects like doorknobs or keyboards
🧼 How to Wash Your Hands — The Right Way!
Wet your hands with clean, running water.
Lather with soap — don’t forget the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
Scrub for at least 20 seconds (Try singing the ABCs or “Happy Birthday” twice!)
Rinse thoroughly under clean, running water.
Dry your hands with a clean towel or air dry.
🤒 Help Prevent Illness by Following These Tips:
Stay home if you're feeling sick and call the school to let us know!
Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue
Avoid touching your face (especially eyes, nose, and mouth)
Eat well, stay hydrated, and get enough sleep!

Let’s work together to make this a happy and healthy school year. Encourage your child to practice good hygiene and remind them that clean hands are caring hands! Feel free to reach out with any health-related questions or concerns.
Stay well,
Nurse Jill
SEL Connection with Mrs. Moriarty
We are off to a great start this year with our social emotional learning lessons. We kicked off the year by celebrating Start with Hello Week. Our students signed the Start with Hello Pledge, agreeing to be inclusive, stand up for others and always “start with hello”. Our Start With Hello Banner is displayed in the hall as a reminder of this important pledge. October is National Bully Prevention Month. We have been having conversations about how to be kind and caring friends and also how to stand up for others if we see someone being treated unkindly. Bryn Mawr is a wonderful place to learn and grow and our students are kind and empathetic. I believe that continuing to foster these traits in our students is a great way to prevent bullying.
Students are starting to explore and build on their calming strategies. We have been practicing different, fun ways of taking deep breaths. We have practiced belly breaths and pumpkin breathing. Incorporating this practice into our daily lives is very beneficial. Deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress hormones. It is a free, convenient strategy that kids and adults alike can use to help regulate. Be on the look out for some turkey breathing visuals to come home next month!
Notes from Mrs. Fenuccio in the Reading Room
It was very timely that our students were able to visit the library recently because November is National Family Literacy Month! We hope that you will return to the library and take advantage of all the wonderful things that are offered in addition to the books.
Make going to the library a routine for your family and allow your child to choose books that interest them. If they are unable to read them, read them aloud to your child. Even as your child becomes a reader, it’s important that you are still reading aloud to them. Not only does this help to build bonding and memories, your child will be exposed to vocabulary, language and more complex text than they can do on their own. Reading aloud is also a great starting point for conversations and comprehension.
Here are some other tips…
*Designate a special bag (or buy a plain canvas bag to decorate with paint or markers) to use only for library books. Fill the bag at the library with lots of books. Store the books in the bag at home so you will always know where they are. Then when you return them, fill up the bag again! Repeat and enjoy!
*Be a good reading role model for your child, pointing out text when you are out and about and having reading materials available for them at home. It’s important for students to see that reading is a crucial life-long skill.
*Pick a night to turn off the TV and make it family reading night instead. Get cozy with blankets or even make a reading fort. For added fun, turn out the lights and use flashlights.
