We had a great return to school in January with Numeracy Month! Our students had a lot of fun learning new math games throughout the month. We hosted a successful Family Math Games Night. Thank you to all of the families that came out on a cold Thursday evening. We really enjoyed connecting with all of you and we hope that you will continue to enjoy the games at home!

I Love to Read month has begun. We are looking forward to another fun filled month with literacy activities and special guest readers! Please see the February calendar for more information.

We still have quite a few students that have not paid their school fees. Please pay online on Parent Portal or bring exact cash or a cheque payable to MES to the school office.

February is I Love to Read Month. Our theme this year is Read Around the World. Students will be encouraged to read every day after school. Every time they read for a certain length of time (depending on their grade level) they will receive a point for their class. Please fill in the reading tickets that the students take home so that they will get their reading points and be entered to win the reading prizes. There will be a weekly draw for book prizes. The class who has the most points at the end of the month will win a dodgeball game against the teachers. As well there will be a draw at the end of the month for grand prizes. We hope this will be a month filled with the enjoyment of reading!

Here are some other exciting I Love to Read activities planned for the month:

Jan. 30 - Opening Assembly - Period 1

Feb. 4 - Wear a Word day

Feb. 5 - Pistons in classrooms - 9 - 11:30

Feb. 10 - Period 1 – Assembly

Feb. 13 - Corny Rempel at 9 a.m.

Feb. 19 - Beach Day - Period 1. This will be a school-wide activity in the gym. Students can bring towels, sunhats, sunglasses, etc. They will bring books to read, and can lie on their towels while reading. When individual reading time is over, a story will be read to the students.

Feb. 20 - Book Draw

Feb. 25 - Sight Word Fun Day

Mar. 3 - Period 6 - Closing Assembly

Winter Fun Day is scheduled for February 26th! There will be an afternoon of outdoor activities (including hay rides!) for the students to enjoy! Please remember to dress your kids for the weather as they'll be outside all afternoon.

Kindergarten registration for the 2025-2026 school year is open! To be eligible, children must be five years of age on or before December 31, 2025. The registration process will take place online at www.hsd.ca. If you do not have access to the Internet, please visit the school office and we can assist you in completing the registration on a school computer.

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to register their children soon after registration opens in January. Early registration will assist us in preparation and planning for the upcoming school year. Registering before March 1, 2025, will ensure there is sufficient time for school appointments and provide parents/guardians with the opportunity to participate in Kindergarten orientation activities. In severe weather conditions, the Hanover School Division closes the school and stops the buses.

An announcement is made on radio stations 95.1 FM, 96.7 FM, and AM 1250 between 7-8 am, as well as on www.steinbachonline.com and as a bulletin on www.hsd.ca
