Red Ribbon Week Oct. 27-31
October 27-31 marks Red Ribbon Week, the nation's oldest and largest drug prevention awareness campaign. It began in 1985 to honor the life of DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who was tragically killed while investigating drug trafficking. He death inspired communities to unite in wearing red ribbons as a symbol of commitment to a drug-free life. Today, millions participate annually to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles.
In our classrooms, we'll celebrate by
- Wearing Red Ribbon week themed outfits M-Th
- Creating red ribbon crafts
- Learning about making safe and healthy choices
For more on Red Ribbon Week's history and activites, visit the DEA Red Ribbon History page.
