Principal's Message

Dear Foussat Families,

We are thrilled to announce that our 1st grade and 1st/2nd grade combo classes have been selected to participate in the ABC 10News STORYTIME program! This special opportunity is brought to us in collaboration with the San Diego Council on Literacy, North Island Credit Union, and the San Diego County Office of Education.

Through this program, 10News visits Title I schools to highlight the importance of early literacy and celebrate the joy of reading. Every participating student will receive a free book to take home and keep!

Important Details

  • Filming & Media Safety: ABC 10News will have a camera crew on campus recording the event. We will strictly follow all school media release records to ensure students without media clearance are not filmed.

  • Student Interviews: The news crew may interview a few students on camera about their love of reading!

  • Broadcast Date & Time: As soon as ABC 10News confirms when the segment will air on TV, we will send a mass communication home so you can tune in and watch!

We are so excited to celebrate our young readers and showcase our amazing 1st graders!

We need your support! Recently, we have noticed an increase in both chewing gum and personal toys being brought to school. We are seeing improperly disposed gum is creating a mess on walkways, and in common areas. At the same time, personal toys from home are causing distractions during instructional time and run the risk of being lost, damaged, or traded.

We kindly ask that you talk with your child about leaving toys and gum at home each morning. Thank you for partnering with us to keep our campus clean, safe, and focused on learning!

Positive Behavior at Foussat Positive Behavior at Foussat

Building Positive Habits Together

Our students are doing a fantastic job practicing our school-wide expectations! To keep this positive momentum going, our scholars will be focusing on our SOAR habits as they learn how to navigate the school safely and respectfully.

Our SOAR Habits:

S - Safe

O - Outstanding

A - Accountable

R - Respectful

You can help support us at home by reminding your children to:

  • Listen actively and respectfully during group learning. For TK-2, this means sitting nicely on the carpet. For 3rd-5th, this means giving their full attention to the speaker and respecting peers during group discussions
  • Walk safely, face forward, and stay with your group when moving through the hallways.

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students SOAR every day!

Each week, our teachers shout-out a student who has been Safe, Outstanding, Accountable, and Respectful! We read the Shout-Outs after students from the SOAR Leaders lead the Pledge of Allegiance in English and Spanish.

Reminders:

For Safety of all our students and families, we ask that parents and guardians drive slowly and carefully through all parking areas and during student pick up and drop-off.

πŸ•— School arrival is between 7:45–8:15 AM.

Students should arrive on campus during this time and go directly to their designated area.

For everyone's safety, students are expected to follow all school rules and safety expectations while traveling to and from school.

Please help us keep our arrival and dismissal process moving safely and efficiently.

When dropping off or picking up by car:

  • 🚘 Use the right lane for student drop-off and pick-up.
  • ➑️ Drive forward as far as possible before your child exits or enters the vehicle.
  • πŸšͺ Students should enter or exit the vehicle quickly through a right-side door.
  • πŸ›‘ Drivers must remain in their vehicles during drop-off and pick-up.
  • 🚢 Please use sidewalks and crosswalks and remind your children to do the same.
  • All TK and Kindergarten students should continue to be walked to the primary gate everyday, unless they are with older siblings. Children need to be able to independently exit and enter the car.

All individuals who pick up students before or after dismissal MUST:

    • park in a parking space before coming into the office
    • be an authorized contact in AERIES
    • show identification
    • sign out the student

To help ensure a safe and smooth dismissal, please pick up your child at the same designated location each day. If your child's dismissal routine changes, please notify the teacher and/or school office by email or in writing before school begins so staff can make the necessary arrangements.

Previous Reminders

Foussat Bell Schedule

There is much more information available to support you throughout the school year. We have attached our Parent/Guardian Handbook (English) on which serve as a helpful reference for school policies, procedures, programs, and supports.

The handbook includes information about school hours and calendars, arrival and dismissal, attendance, health services, communication, behavior expectations, student supports, dress code, visitors and volunteers, field trips, electronic devices, and more. We encourage families to review the handbook and keep it available as a resource throughout the year.

We know there is a lot of information to take in at the beginning of the year, so we will continue to share important reminders throughout the school year. For now, please focus on the arrival and safety procedures shared in this newsletter, and use the Parent/Guardian Handbook as your go-to resource for additional information.

E-Bike Safety

All OUSD students who plan to ride and park an E-Bike on any district campus will need to go through the free E-Bike process. This helps promote safe biking habits and ensures students are prepared to ride responsibly to and from school and school-sponsored events.

Please note: Only middle and high school students will receive a permit sticker to park their E-Bike on campus.

Steps to follow:

  1. Complete a liability waiver- completed in data confirmation

  2. Take the OUSD-approved E-Bike Safety Course (CHP Online Certification)

  3. Submit the Online Bicycle Permit Application with a parent or guardian

  4. (Recommended) Register the E-Bike for free on Project 529 in case it is lost or stolen.

E-Bike Safety (AB 544):

  • New Requirement: All E-bikes are now required to have a red reflector or red rear light (solid or flashing) visible from 500 feet at all times.

  • E-Bike updates from OPD and City of Oceanside
