King Elementary School
School Wide Support for Testing
In preparation for the IAR assessment, King School held an IAR assembly on March 18. Students in grades K-2 made signs of encouragement for their buddy classes as the 3rd and 4th-grade students entered the gym. Students who were in attendance on time for testing each day received an attendance raffle ticket for a chance at winning a McDonald’s gift card.
Silas Willard Elementary School
Helping Those in Need
Holiday seasons can be difficult for many families in Galesburg and the surrounding areas. The Silas Willard Student Council decided to pitch in and to help those in need around the holidays. They held a food drive where non-perishable food items were collected for the Fish Food Pantry. Thank you for doing your part to help the community!

Lombard Middle School
Fueling Passion and Interests with Students
On March 28, Lombard teachers wanted to not only celebrate student efforts on state testing but also share some of their interests with their students. Lombard Middle School created an afternoon called Zephyr Rotations! The rotations were inspired by Google’s 20% time policy, which allows employees to spend 20% of their work hours on projects of their choosing. Schools across the nation have started to implement genius hour for students to engage in projects that they are passionate about. We thought Zephyr Rotations would be a wonderful way to celebrate our students and staff!
Lombard teachers chose certain activities that they enjoy that might not be a part of their everyday curriculum such as chess, map coordinates, mindfulness activities, miniature golf, logic puzzles, jewelry making, and escape rooms to name a few. Students had the opportunity to choose two that sounded interesting to them. Students had the opportunity to laugh, learn, and bond with classmates and staff. State testing can be challenging. We hope Zephyr Rotations reminded our students and staff we appreciate their efforts!

Marching Streaks and Choir Take on Disney
After months of planning it was finally time for the GHS Marching Streaks and Choir to make the journey to Orlando, Florida for some relaxation and performances! The Choir performed at Disney Springs on April 3rd and the Marching Streaks paraded down Main Street USA on April 4th. Students enjoyed visiting Disney parks and even taking some time to relax at Cocoa Beach. Director of Bands Andy Empey said, "I am so thankful to work with such an amazing group of students that represented our school and community well, and they showcased their talents at Disney World!" A special thanks to the chaperones who volunteered and helped take care of all the travelers.
