Howdy Bronco Family! In typical West Texas weather, we’ve seen bitter cold, fog, rain, high winds, and sunshine all this week. There’s no choice but to embrace the crazy weather! I don’t know about you, but I’m sure ready for some warmer spring weather. So, fingers crossed Punxsutawney Phil doesn’t see his shadow February 2nd!

But, it’s evident at Burleson Elementary that Spring is coming our way. The younger students are progressing and accomplishing so much. The older ones are buckling down learning new material while getting ready for STAAR in April. I have watched the kiddos grow so much academically since the beginning of school. It’s always fun seeing a student excited about learning something new, making a good grade, or meeting their reading goal. I want the love of learning and wanting to be here to always be within each child who passes through our doors. Coming here every day really does this gal’s heart good! My wish is it does the same for your child.

Remember, you can always find the latest Meadow ISD news on the MISD website and Facebook page, so go check them out! Also, check your kiddo’s backpack and folders for any important paper notes that may have gone home.

Don’t forget to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is going on in the classroom. We are always here to help.

It’s ALWAYS great to be a Bronco!

Mrs. B

¡Hola familia Bronco!

Hello parents,

This week in Phonics we are working on the letter qu. The students have also learned to code combination qu with an arch. We will continue to work on final sounds, blends, and reading words with twin consonants, and blends.

In math our new unit is all about counting, reading and writing numbers from 20-30. Students will continue to use three ten frames for counting sets for numbers through 30. The students will also look for patterns when counting and they will work with what comes before or after a given number.

Sight words- practice reading the sight words each night.

AR – read the library book to your child for at least 20 minutes, so that they can take an AR test the next day. We have a new AR goal which is 6 points for this new quarter.

In Social Studies we will focus our attention on location. The students will learn more about how people adapt to their location for food, activities and clothing.

Thank you,

Mrs. Sanchez

Hola padres,

Gracias,

Sra. Sánchez

Super second graders!

All the sickness has finally hit our classroom hard! With so many out we've taken the week fairly easy, we've been reviewing old concepts from the beginning of the year and have only introduced a couple new things. Spelling tests will resume next week once everyone is back and feeling better! Please continue to encourage your child to read at home and practice sight words.

Thank you for all you do!

Mrs.Alaniz

Sra. Alaniz

3rd Grade ELAR

I am so happy to see everyone back, fit and well! Let's hope the flu has finally left 3rd grade!

Spelling:

We did not test last week due to the number of absences, so I'm hoping we have great results this week as students will have had two weeks to study their words with prefixes. Please help your child be successful by studying with them.

Reading:

We are finishing our poetry unit this week, before starting our STAAR review covering all genres next week. STAAR tests are right around the corner! Please monitor your child's independent reading every evening - the more confident a reader they are, the more successful they will be in class!

Language/Grammar:

We are continuing to work on complete vs incomplete sentences with the correct subject/verb agreement

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Mrs. McCormick

Last week I mentioned a new program that 4th and 5th grade will be starting. Patrick Mahomes and the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation have a program called "Read for 15". The program will start Feb. 3 and run until May 19. If you would like to find out more information about it, please visit www.15andthemahomies.org. The program challenges the students to make the pledge to read 15 minutes every day for 15 weeks! We will have some prizes along the way for those who are meeting this goal. There will be an accountability log that parents will need to sign. Throughout the program, we will be taking pictures that will be on the school website and social media. We will be tagging the Mahomies Foundation in those posts. (If you do not want your child in the pictures, please email me.) We want to let the foundation know how hard our students are working. The foundation will select 15 classes to receive a pizza party! We highly encourage you to share your students participating in the READ FOR 15 program at home and tag The 15 and The Mahomies! Pizza party winners will get their pizza party in May before the end of the session! The more we read, post, and share, the better chance we have of winning the pizza party! On February 3rd, please have your child wear either a Texas Tech or Chiefs shirt. If they don't have one, please let me know. I am sure there are students who have more than one and can share. Even if we do not get the pizza party, each participant will receive a Read for 15 Certificate with Patrick Mahomes autograph.

Parents,

I would like to remind you that if your child did not pass their vision and/or hearing screens, they need to be taken to the appropriate physician as soon as possible. I have sent another letter home with your child this week. The physician needs to fill out and sign the bottom portion of the referral letter and it needs to be returned to the office. These visits are completely covered by Medicaid. If your child does not have vision insurance or Medicaid, you may qualify for a vision voucher. Please let me know as soon as possible if you need the form to request a voucher. If your child cannot see or hear, they may be struggling in the classroom. Therefore, it is in your child's best interest to have a professional examination.

We have had several students out this week with the flu. If your child is running a fever of 100.4 or higher, please keep them home. They may not return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of tylenol or motrin. Please be diligent in reminding your children to cover their mouths and wash their hands frequently.

Rae Campbell, BSN, RN

School Nurse

Meadow ISD

Padres,
