The Edge The Edge

The Edge is a student-produced news magazine program at the Lapeer Education & Technology Center in Attica, Michigan. Dryden High School senior Ethan Knuth created all of the animated opens and is the show's technical director, and senior Leta Garretson co-hosts the show.

In this edition of the Edge, we take a look at scholarships available to Ed Tech students, student competition, and the Careers in Education and Health Science students team up to teach the preschool kids about dental hygiene. The health classes at Ed-Tech tell us about their stuffed animal drive to help young children. We hear from students and how their current sports seasons are going. Finally, we introduce a new segment called “Fill Up With Philip.”

On Saturday, March 5, senior Joanna Livingston competed at the MHSAA bowling state finals at M-66 Bowl in Battle Creek. Joanna did an amazing job, bowling 154, 147, 105, 132, 138, and 164 during all six individual matches. Overall, in the state of Michigan’s high school Division 4 state championships for girls bowling, Joanna placed an outstanding 43rd. Joanna’s impressive performance concludes the 2022 bowling season. Great job, Joanna, and great job to both of our girls and boys bowling teams!

Districts! The girls made it to district finals on Wednesday, March 2nd after they beat Peck in a head-to-head competition. For the Peck game, the final score was 42-27, leaving the Dryden fans and athletes ecstatic. The top scorers were Jessica Peters with 16, Rilynn Lindsay with 10, Keira Miller with 5, Lauren Abromaitis with 5, Delaney Wolle with 2, Jenna Peters with 2, and Isabella Weier with 2. Congrats!

Then after the second game on Wednesday with Genessee Christian and Mayville competing, Genessee Christian came out victorious, making us battle them in district finals on Friday, March 4th. Unfortunately, with them being such a good team, the girls were unable to hold on, making the score 55-23. Our top scorers were Jenna Peters with 7, Olivia Stickler with 4, Delaney Wolle with 4, Lauren Abromaitis with 4, Rilynn Lindsay with 2, and Ava Devlaminck with 2. Great season ladies and see you next year!

Varsity Boys Basketball

The boys played their last home game on February 24. They ended up losing, but the gym was loud, and the game was intense. Let's look at the numbers the boys put up in the contest against Deckerville.

Jacob Burgess led the Cardinals with 22 points and 4 assists, followed by Merrick Maris with 17 points, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 6 boards. Sonny Coscione had 10 points and Dylan Ledford contributed with 8 points. Zack Lemke had 2 points, 8 boards, and 2 assists.

After the game, the coach said, "We played very poorly in the first half. However, we came back and played hard in the second half and got within 4 a couple of times." The Cardinals will play their last game of the regular season on Tuesday. Good luck to the boys. Go Cardinals!
