It was wonderful seeing so many of you in the building this week for conferences. If you were not able to attend your conference, please reach out to the homeroom teacher as we need 100% participation. Thank you.

Thank you so much to the PTO for providing the staff such a wonderful luncheon. It was greatly appreciated. Also, thank you for all of your hard work on the Bobcat Bolt!

If you have not completed the Halloween survey for your child(ren) please do so. We hope many of you can come out and join us along the Halloween parade route!

Halloween Celebrations are coming up Friday, October 30

  • We will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 30 in the afternoon (families who prefer to not have their child participate may email the homeroom teacher and me and we will plan alternate activities)
  • Costumes need to be culturally sensitive (see district blurb below); not include any play weapons such as knives, guns, or swords; not include masks making safe travel around the building and neighborhood unsafe
  • 11:30 - 12:25 pm - Lunch and recess will continue as usual; however, we will send a short survey next week to complete to let us know if your child will be picked up for lunch and to change into their costume at home.
  • 12:25 - 1:00 pm - Students will get into their costumes; class activity; parade preparation
  • 1:00 - 1:10 pm - Classes will head out to the blacktop to prepare for the start of the parade
  • 1:10 - 1:40 pm - Parade around the school and neighborhood
  • 1:45 - 2:45 pm - Class Parties
  • 2:45 - 3:00 pm - Clean Up and Dismissal

Title One Event Follow Up For Families who have Bobcats Currently at the Tier 3 Reading and/or Math Level

Ms. Stewart (Instructional Coach/MTSS A Lead), Ms. Cairns (Language Arts Specialist) and I enjoyed seeing many of our Title 1 students and families at the Title 1 Pop In Event.

For those of you who were unable to come, we missed you. Your child will receive their bag of goodies at their WIN time this week. Each student and family member needs to please complete their portion of the Title 1 Compact (agreement) and send it back to school. We need to collect those by Friday, October 30. We are once again considered a Title 1 School and therefore in addition to Ms. Cairns servicing many of our students, I will soon be introducing our new Title 1 Tutor. She will be doing some of our ELA groups and will be hosting some math groups. If your child will be serviced by her, we will let you know.

Bobcat Bolt Follow Up

Thank you, Beye Community, for a very successful Bobcat Bolt! Seeing the family and friends join us Thursday morning as our energetic kids bolted, bopped, ran, sprinted, strolled, and skipped around the block was incredible. The energy was high and the effort was real. We appreciate the teachers for taking time out of their days to rally their classes. We appreciate everyone who volunteered to help guide students on our safe path around the school. We appreciate the parents and guardians who helped register their students and for sharing the message and helping us raise money for important PTO initiatives. Not only did we meet our stretch goal- we built more community for our Bobcat Family. Thank you!

Students who are already accelerated in math or who have successfully completed the Access to Algebra program in the past are not eligible to participate.

Need assistance?
Please contact Director of Teaching and Learning, Emilie Creehan at ecreehan@op97.org or Access to Algebra Coordinator, Arnetta Thomspon at athomspons@op97.org regarding questions about the Access to Algebra Bridge Courses.

**If your 5th grader is currently receiving Tier 2 or Tier 3 math interventions during WIN time, they would be better served getting those interventions instead of doing Access to Algebra. If you have any questions, please reach out to your homeroom teacher.

Halloween Costumes: Encouraging Thoughtful Choices for an Inclusive Community

Our goal in District 97 is to create a positive learning environment where all students, staff and families feel a sense of belonging. In that spirit, we have put together information and resources regarding culturally-sensitive Halloween costumes. We appreciate families being proactive with their children in making thoughtful costume choices. District 97 Halloween Letter 2026 >>

Student Permission Process for D97 School Clubs

Dear District 97 Families,

Over the past several months, District 97 has been working to create more consistent, organized, and streamlined practices across all of our school-sponsored clubs and extracurricular programs.

As part of this effort, we are introducing a centralized parent/guardian permission process for student participation in school clubs across all buildings. Moving to a single, standardized process helps ensure that student spaces remain safe, well-managed, and clear for every family.

What You Need to Know:

  • One Centralized Form: Before attending any school-sponsored club, a parent or guardian must complete a brief permission form. Each school has its own form—you can access your school's link here: D97 Extracurricular Programs and Clubs Permission Forms.

  • Continuous Access: Because clubs launch at different points throughout the school year, this form link will remain permanently accessible in school newsletters and websites.

  • Specialized Activities: If a specific club requires supplementary agreements (such as digital platforms for students under 13), club sponsors will follow up directly with those details.

We appreciate your partnership as we continue to enhance and support our extracurricular offerings for all students!

Sincerely,

Dr. Eboney Lofton
Chief Learning and Innovation Officer
