BrinkerBulletin September 23, 2021

Message from Principal Cockrell:

Hello, Brinker Families!

I hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful fall weather! I know the kids and the teachers are enjoying being outside for recess a lot more! Our teachers have started a brand new social emotional learning curriculum called Second Step and the kids are enjoying it. It focuses on enhancing social skills and regulating our emotions through short videos, practice, and class discussions. Since our kids were somewhat isolated from each other last year, we want to make sure we are focusing not only on academics, but also their mental health. Students learn best when they have strong relationships at school and feel comfortable in the classroom. Creating a safe and loving environment here at Brinker has been a big topic of conversation this year. Also, I can’t wait for Field Day next week. It will be my first Brinker Field Day and we’re adding water games this year. The kids are pumped!

Thank you all for your continued support and have a great weekend!

From the Library From the Library

Message from our Librarian Mrs. Pearson:

Reading is of the utmost importance at Brinker Elementary! Reading is the foundation of all student’s education. Special reading programs encourage students to develop a love of reading. The library offers several exciting programs for children. These are excellent opportunities for you and your child to read together. Please encourage your child to participate in these reading programs.

Texas 2x2 Reading Club: Sponsored by the Texas Library Association (www.txla.org) for students in kindergarten – 2nd grade. Students must read all 20 books from the annual list to qualify for the reading celebration in the spring. Reading logs are available in the library and are due by March 1, 2022.

Texas Bluebonnet Book Club: Sponsored by the Texas Library Association (www.txla.org) for students in grades 3rd-6th to read from an annual list of 20 books. To qualify to vote for their favorite book in January, five books must be read. To qualify to participate in the reading celebration in the spring, students must read 10 or more of the books from the current list. Reading logs are due in the library by January 31, 2022.

Due to the pandemic, some of the additional reading programs we have offered in the past have changed or are no longer available. I am working on finding more opportunities in the future.
