Dear McKelvey Community,

Please enjoy your long weekend. It is my hope that you get to spend time with the ones that you love. Don't forget that McKelvey's Culture Night is next Thursday, April 4th from 6:00-7:30. It will be fun for the whole family and there will be a food truck here as well!

We have a lot of activities and testing packed into the next couple of months, so please make sure that your children are well rested and at school on time each day. Let's finish this school year strong!

In order to support the mental health of our students, we are offering a free, optional mental wellness screening for 5th graders on April 15-18, administered by Brian Kuhn, the director of the Student Wellness Program (SWP) through Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri.

The SWP is a mental wellness screener that helps to identify students who may need additional mental health support & connect families with community mental health resources. Parkway has utilized this program for a few years now, and it has been a wonderful tool for supporting our students' social/emotional needs.

Please read the attached letter for more information about how to register your child for this program.

A concussion can happen from a blow to the head or any impact that causes the brain to bounce or twist around inside the skull.

Did you know...

• You do not need to lose consciousness to get a concussion.

• Having one concussion increases the risk of getting another.

• Concussions aren't always due to a blow to the head. A hit to the body that causes the brain to bounce back and forth in the skull can cause a concussion.

Be a part of something special! The McKelvey Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is made up of the parents of all the students at both McKelvey schools (K-5) and all teachers. We work together for the benefit of students to plan events, fundraisers, volunteer, take care of our teachers, and provide amazing resources to enhance our student learning. In short - the PTO helps make McKelvey awesome!

As a parent/guardian of a McKelvey Dragon, you are automatically a member. Please get involved as much as you are able. There are many ways, big and small, to connect and contribute to our school community. PTO's general meetings are led by our PTO Board, a small group of elected parents and teacher representatives. All are invited, and meetings are a great place to share your voice and hear the voices of others. We'll see you there!

This year's meetings will be held on the following dates at alternating locations:

• January 23 - 6:30 PM in the Intermediate Library
• March 26 - 6:30 PM in the Primary Library

The success of our students would not be possible without the involvement and support of parents and the community. We love to connect with families in as many ways possible throughout the school year. Get a head start on approval for field trips, working in the library, or assisting with classroom projects by completing Parkway's required steps for volunteering at school. For Returning Volunteers - Every July, Parkway resets all of our volunteer accounts to renewal required. Your background information is good for up to six years from the time you completed it with MACHS as long as you stay active as a volunteer from year to year.
