General Information
Cooper Kindness Tree Lighting & Spaghetti Dinner
Our tree lighting is going to look a little bit different this year with the addition of a FREE pasta meal! Please bring an ornament (old, new, or homemade!) to hang on our tree outside the main entrance on your way inside where we will have a meal, music, and our annual hot cocoa and cookies! We will be collecting snack donations (pretzels, animal crackers, or goldfish crackers please!) that we can distribute to classrooms for students who may be in need! Our event begins at 6 pm on Tuesday, December 3rd. At about 6:50 pm we will ask everyone to head outside and gather around our tree as we countdown to light it! This event is a wonderful opportunity for our Cooper Community to celebrate our monthly character themes of kindness and generosity - we hope to see you all there!
Winter Sing-Along Concerts & Celebration of Giving
The 21st Annual Cooper Celebration of Giving is here! If you would like to sponsor a child or donate a monetary amount, scan the QR codes below. On the day of our winter concerts - Friday, December 13th - themed gift baskets will be silently auctioned and student craft projects will be for sale in our Cooper Library as well. All proceeds will be used to support Superior children in need during the holiday season and throughout the year! All details can be found below!
Flag Raising Ceremony & White Table Presentation
We were proud and honored to welcome several of our area veterans to Cooper on two different occasions this month! On November 8th we held a flag raising ceremony for our whole school to participate in followed by visits to the classrooms by our local Honor Guard members! Our students made cards and colored pictures for the Honor Guard members to take and distribute to veterans at local nursing homes!
On November 13th our Honor Guard members returned to present a white table ceremony for our 4th and 5th grade classes. We found out that we are the only school in this area that requests this presentation, and we are so grateful our Honor Guard is willing to continue their service in such a special way to help educate our students!

Cooper Families,
We have a busy few weeks ahead of us with many exciting events and activities happening. We are excited to be welcoming our Cooper families into the building for our annual Cooper Kindness Tree Lighting with the new add-on this year of a spaghetti dinner! Following that will be our Winter Sing-Along Concerts and the 21st Annual Celebration of Giving! We are fortunate here at Cooper to have such great engagement from our families, no matter what the activity or event might be. In between those events, we want to make sure our families have an easy way to check-in with us, so we keep the following "Cooper Family Check-In Form" linked at the top of our newsletter. Please feel free to reach out to us directly, or through this check-in form if it is more convenient for you. We always want our Cooper families to feel valued, and know what an integral role each and every one of us plays in the education of our students.

Climate and Connections
It's important to not just assume we know what kids are thinking and feeling about school. Each year we take two short surveys to ask the students how they are feeling about school and who they feel connected to. According to the American Psychological Association, "School connectedness is the belief held by students that adults and peers in the school care about their learning as well as about them as individuals. Students are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors and succeed academically when they feel connected to school. Research has shown that young people who feel connected to their school are less likely to engage in many risk behaviors and are also more likely to have better academic achievement, including higher grades and test scores, have better school attendance and stay in school longer."
Overall, of the students that responded, the vast majority of students in grades 3-5 are feeling safe and valued at school. We talk with students about these results and get their ideas on what we can do better as adults. We will continue to work toward the goal that all students feel valued and that they belong. Here are some of the results....
- 91% of students feel safe at school
- 98.5% of students feel like they have friends at school
- 91% of students feel like people care about each other in their classroom
- 93% of students feel supported by their teacher
- 88% of students feel valued as a student
- 99% of students feel connected to at least one adult at Cooper
