Happy New Year! I hope that your holiday season and winter break was filled with special family time, lots of fun, and hopefully a little bit of rest to help you feel recharged to start 2026 on a positive note. The Liberty staff is looking forward to welcoming students back to school tomorrow, Monday, January 5th.

Teachers are excited to hear about students' winter breaks and reconnect as a class after two weeks apart! They will also be reviewing expected behaviors in the following settings: classroom, hallways, bathroom, and stairwell. Mr. Nejman and I will be reviewing the behavior expectations for the playground and the cafeteria. Reviewing our schoolwide expectations is a great way to ease students (and staff) back into the school routine after two weeks off. Be sure to ask your child how they can be respectful, ready, and responsible while at school. Your support with this at home helps to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all of our students at school. Thank you!

¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Esperamos que su temporada de fiestas y el receso de invierno hayan estado llenos de momentos especiales en familia, mucha diversión y, con suerte, un poco de descanso para ayudarles a sentirse renovados y comenzar el 2026 con una nota positiva. El personal de Liberty espera con entusiasmo dar la bienvenida nuevamente a los estudiantes mañana, lunes 5 de enero.

Did you know that students who miss 18 or more days of school are considered Chronically Absent? Each year, one of Liberty's School Improvement Plan (SIP) goals is to reduce the percentage of students who are "Chronically Absent."

At the time of this newsletter, Chronic Absenteeism is at 9.6%, meaning 9.6% of Liberty students have missed 10% or more of the school year. At the time of the previous newsletter, Chronic Absenteeism was at 8.8%. Chronic Absenteeism tends to inch up when cold and flu season start, but with vacations coming to an end, we look forward to students being in school every day that they are healthy.

5th grade has the lowest rate of Chronic Absenteeism with 6% followed by 4th grade with 7%. Way to go!

¿Sabías que los estudiantes que faltan 18 días o más a clases se consideran ausentes crónicos? Cada año, uno de los objetivos del Plan de Mejora Escolar (SIP) de Liberty es reducir el porcentaje de estudiantes con "ausencia crónica".

PTO Meeting: The next PTO meeting is Wednesday, January 14 at 6:00pm in the Liberty Liberty. Childcare is provided. Hope to see you there!

Movie Night: Come to PTO Movie Night on Friday, January 16 at 6:00pm in the Liberty Gym. Feel free to wear pajamas, bring lawn chairs, blankets, stuffies and anything cozy as we enjoy a movie together as one big Liberty family.

Liberty's 3rd Annual Cultural Fest is Friday, January 30th from 5:30pm-7:00pm! This is a meaningful way to celebrate all the wonderful cultures, languages, and countries that are represented at Liberty. If you would like to host a table to represent your country or culture, please use this link to sign up or click on the flyer that is linked above which contains a QR code to sign up. Examples of what tables can include are pictures, articles of clothing, food, decorations, and any other artifacts that will teach people about the country and celebrate your culture. You can also sign up to do a performance if you'd like to represent your country with a dance or song.

La Hacienda will once again be selling delicious food, and this year, everyone who hosts a table will receive a voucher for a free meal.

Even if you aren't able to host a table, we hope you will come for a fun evening event that celebrates Liberty's diversity!

¡El 3.er Festival Cultural Anual de Liberty se llevará a cabo el viernes 30 de enero, de 5:30 p. m. a 7:00 p. m.! Esta es una manera significativa de celebrar todas las maravillosas culturas, idiomas y países que están representados en Liberty. Si desea organizar una mesa para representar su país o cultura, por favor use el enlace para inscribirse o haga clic en el volante enlazado arriba, que contiene un código QR para registrarse. The 2025-26 Note of Appreciation form is now live and can be accessed by clicking here. Submitting a note is simple: Just open the form, identify the staff member you would like to recognize, and share a few sentences about what makes that person extraordinary.

Parents and guardians are welcome to recognize any District 300 employee – teachers, counselors, family school liaisons, paraeducators, registrars, secretaries, and more – anyone who has had a positive impact on their student.

Each Note of Appreciation is printed and hand-delivered directly to the respective staff member, creating a personal moment of gratitude that means so much.

Your words of thanks definitely uplift and encourage our hardworking staff!

Be sure to check out the pictures on Facebook from when the Food Pantry attended the Holiday Sing on December 19 and presented Liberty with a huge 1st place trophy for the 24-25 D300 Food Pantry competition! Thank you so much for sending in food and toiletries that week with your children so we could give a large donation to the pantry when they came. It was especially neat to see the rarely-donated items that were mentioned, such as vegetable oil, sugar, baby food, and cleaning supplies.

The red donation bin is always in the vestibule of the school, so any time you are able to buy an extra item while grocery shopping, you can send it to school with your child to donate. Asking your child what they think would be a good item to donate is a great way to engage them in a conversation about kindness and empathy. Thank you again for your generosity, Liberty families!

At Liberty, we are fortunate to have three wonderful social workers: Mrs. Capra, Mrs. Nelis, and Mrs. Voss. They are extremely knowledgeable about outside resources for children, parents, and families. The attachments below are resources that Mrs. Nelis found regarding a new parent group and monthly parent presentations to benefit all ages.
