Playground Visits

As a reminder the playground during school hours of 8:35-3:00 should remain for school use only. We have had an influx of parent and small children or dogs on the playground while students are actively out at recess. For the safety of our students and also younger sibling, I need to ask parents to please remain off the playground until after 3:00 each day.

Socktober

The Kindness Club is celebrating Socktober by giving those lonely, mismatched socks a second chance!

Throughout the month of October, we’re collecting clean, gently used odd socks. We’ll match socks as closely as possible and donate them helping put those single socks to good use.

Have a sock without a pair? Donate it! Let’s make this Socktober a month of matching, giving, and kindness. 💙

Bring your clean odd socks to the Kindness Club collection throughout October!

Fall Fun October 30th Fall Fun October 30th

Information on Fall Parties, Parade and Costumes

On Friday, October 30th, Redwood will once again host a fall costume parade. Students are not required, but invited to come dressed in costumes to school on the morning of October 30th.

As a reminder please choose a costume that does not reflect violence. Inappropriate “props” such as plastic swords, guns, knives, and weapons of any kind are not allowed – even if they are a part of your child’s costume.

For parents wishing to view the parade please arrive prior to the 10:00 start time. You may bring your own camp chair or stand anywhere in the grassy area in the front of the building to view the parade. Students will be walking the parade route beginning at 10:00 AM. In the event of rain, parents will be invited to enter and stand in the gym and the parade will pass through to allow parents to view the parade.

Students who attend the afternoon session of LEAPS and Kindergarten will have their own special parade beginning at 1:30. Parents are again invited to view the parade outdoors in the grassy area in the front of the building.

Costumes

Costumes - Students are not required to wear costumes on October 30th, but those students who do wish to participate are reminded of the following guidelines:

1. Please choose a costume that does not reflect violence. Inappropriate “props” such as plastic swords, guns, knives, and weapons of any kind are not allowed – even if they are a part of your child’s costume.

2. If possible, students should wear their costume to school to be prepared for the morning parade.

3. All costumes should maintain the integrity of our school dress code.

4. Students are to bring clothes to change out of their costume following the parade.

Redwood 3rd & 4th Grade After School Choir Information Redwood 3rd & 4th Grade After School Choir Information

Choir

🎶 Redwood Choir Update

📋 Registration Update
Registration for Redwood Choir is now closed for the semester. The only exception at this point is for students who were unable to enroll due to a medical absence from school. Families in that situation should reach out to the choir directors directly.

Redwood Choir is off to a wonderful start, with nearly 100 fourth graders participating each week! 🎵 A few reminders to help keep dismissal safe and efficient for everyone:

🚗 Car Line & Pick-Up

  • Pick-up begins promptly at 3:30 PM. Please pull all the way up to the end of the cafeteria walls, and have your window down so staff can identify your family.
  • Students board cars only once vehicles have come to a complete stop.
  • If picking up a student from a car parked outside the car line, parents must cross the car line themselves and walk their child back — students should never cross alone.
  • Carpooling is welcome but must be communicated to choir staff each week; otherwise students will be held until contact is confirmed.

⏰ Attendance & Expectations

  • Early-dismissal families should review the early-dismissal procedure with their child each week, especially reminding them of their pick-up time.
  • Students who walk or bike to school may also walk or bike home. 🚲
  • Behavior expectations reinforced weekly: using a singing voice, listening while the teacher is talking, and keeping hands to oneself. 🙌

🎼 Program Notes

  • The choir has begun rehearsing Jubilate Deo by Praetorius, with strong early progress on pitch and part independence. They've also started on Chatter with the Angels, a fun, uptempo piece, and have begun work on the National Anthem.
  • Rehearsals have also covered note names, posture, rhythms, and other music fundamentals.
  • 👕 T-shirt order forms are due as soon as possible — available from classroom teachers or via email.

Thank you to all our choir families for a fantastic first weeks — we're looking forward to a great year of music together! 🎉

Note from the Nurse

As we head into the long weekend, a little extra attention to personal care and wellness at home is always a good idea.

  • Practice good handwashing, especially before eating and after playing or participating in activities.
  • Encourage good cough and sneeze habits by covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow.
  • Take a moment to check your child’s hair and scalp.
  • Please keep your child home if they are sick, have a fever, or are not feeling well enough to participate in the school day. If your child wakes up feeling unwell, please give them the opportunity to rest and recover at home rather than sending them to school to see how they do. The school clinic is here to support students during the school day, but it should not be used to determine whether a child is well enough to attend school. Keeping children home when they are sick helps them recover and helps protect the health of our school community.

Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff healthy!

Electronic Student Devices - cell phones and watches

As more students bring cell phones and watches with wi-fi and data capabilities, it is

important to remember and inform your children about the policy of using them while at

school. During school hours, students must keep the phone in the locker/cubby or

backpack and have it turned off. If a parent needs to contact their child or a child needs

to contact a parent, that communication must go through the school and in most cases

the main office. Watches are another area where communication may occur if wi-fi or

data are enabled. Students may wear watches and use the watches for time telling

purposes or tracking their steps and other non-communication purposes. However, if

students and parents are using the watch to call and text each other, those devices will

be viewed more for communication and will be asked to be put away each day like a cell

phone. Thank you for your attention to this matter and following these rules.

All students are invited to participate in the program. The menu is a set repeating menu, there is only one option a day. We ask you remind students if they participate in this program the money does come from their normal lunch account.
