Updates from the Principal's Desk
Assalam Aleikum,
Dear NISL Families,
As we work together to provide the best possible education for your child, your involvement and support are critical. Below are some practical ways you can help your child meet our school’s expectations in the areas of academics, behavior, and social skills:
Academic Support:
- Regularly monitor your child’s grades and attendance through the Alma online grading system.
- Establish a consistent study time and a quiet place for your child to complete homework.
- Ensure your child arrives at school on time every day.
- Schedule appointments, such as doctor or dentist visits, outside of school hours whenever possible.
- Stay informed by regularly reading all school communications.
- Attend school activities whenever you can to support your child's engagement in the school community.
Behavioral Support:
- Familiarize yourself with and reinforce the behaviors in the Schoolwide Expectations Matrix at home.
- Post a copy of the school expectations overview in a visible place at home as a reminder.
- Model positive behaviors for your child and encourage them to do the same.
- Support teachers and the school’s efforts to promote positive behaviors.
- Keep communication open with teachers, informing them of any home situations that might affect your child’s behavior at school.
Social Skills Support:
- Read the school newsletter to stay updated on the social skills we are teaching through our Positive Action program.
- Reinforce these social skills at home and in your community.
- Offer specific praise when your child demonstrates the expected social skills they’ve learned.
- Model the use of polite language and encourage your child to do the same in all their interactions.
- Share any social concerns you have about your child with school staff so we can work together to support them.
- Assume the best of intentions from others and encourage your child to do the same.
All of these strategies are part of our Comprehensive, Integrated, Three-Tiered (Ci3T) Model of Prevention. For more details about how Ci3T supports your child’s academic, social, and behavioral development, you can refer to the Ci3T brochure, which provides a comprehensive overview.
Thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we can ensure your child has a successful and enriching school year!
Sincerely,
Aisha Blagaia
