I hope that you will enjoy our newsletter packed with children's learning this week. I have created a new reminder section of things that need to be returned or need noting so please have a look there.

There are also some new diary dates which I have added in bold.

Have a lovely weekend!

I hope you will enjoy looking at what we have been up to. Please remember to follow us on Instagram (Swinefleet_Pr).

Pearls

Pearls class have been continuing to learn about ‘People Who Help Us’. Over the last two weeks, we have been learning about refuse collectors and how we sort our rubbish into the correct colour bins. We have also been learning about doctors, dentists and nurses and how they help us too. We have been talking about keeping healthy and the importance of eating a healthy diet, exercising and brushing our teeth.

In maths lessons, we have been learning about our numbers to 10, we have been singing songs and counting out amounts. In our provision, we have been exploring capacity in water play, using playdough to make people, counting out teddies to match the number given and exploring Autumn objects in our mud kitchen!

Next week, we will be continuing our ‘People Who Help Us’ theme and also learning about harvest.

Rubies

This week in Rubies class we became chefs! We prepared and cooked a beef stew for the homeless and even had a go at slicing and peeling independently.

In English, we finished our old hospital descriptions and we used some amazing vocabulary and are so proud of our writing :)

In maths, we have been looking at number lines and had a go at ordering numbers from smallest to greatest.

In science, we talked about all things human and investigated our bodies. We looked at our bones, organs and how we are all different in different ways.

Next week, we are hopefully taking a trip to a care home to look at how social care has changed since Florence Nightingale. Keep a look out for some photos of our visit :)

Diamonds

This week in Diamonds we have been looking at mirrors in Science and how they reflect light, we did some fun experiments outside in the playground.

We have also been drafting our Iron Man stories and we have had some fabulous descriptive writing about how Iron Man puts his body parts back together. We can't wait to see the published work!

Sapphires

In Sapphires, we have been completing work on character descriptions and publishing our work.

In Maths, we have been looking at negative numbers and inverse operations.

In humanities, we have been researching Benjamin Franklin on the laptops and looking the many inventions he created, we also placed all the inventors we have explored so far on timelines to see the progression throughout the 20th century.

We have had lots of fun in RE and worldviews looking at pilgrimages and writing postcards showing what a journey would entail.

Still on the theme of inventors the children have been practicing art techniques of perspective and shading working towards a final piece based on the Wright's Brothers aircraft.

School Council

The School Council have had their first meeting and had many ideas - including some that I am not sure are physically possible yet alone within our budget. They have got Children in Need all planned and a letter will be coming out soon. The group were also tasked with thinking about Safeguarding and what they thought could be done in school if children ever wanted to talk to someone. I was very impressed to hear that they think a worry box would be a good addition to school. I have one on order and I am looking forward to the School Council introducing this to the school.

Clubs

Clubs are in full swing. If you would like to book clubs then please click the button below.

Please note children are to be collected from the car park gate.

Book Extra-Curricular Clubs Here (All Free)

Friday Book Bags

It is great to continue seeing the work children are producing at home. Every Friday, the children then tell us all about what they have read and the work they produced which is great to share. I wonder who will be chosen to take home a bag this week?

Instagram

We are moving to Instagram! Many parents do not use Twitter so we are moving to a platform more widely used which also will link with our Facebook account. Although we already hold photo permission we are tweaking the use so please ensure that you email us permission if you haven't done so already. If you have any questions please just feel free to contact us.

Cooking for Help the Homelezz

We will again be cooking for the homeless this year with the meals being distributed by the Help the Homelezz team. We have just done our first cook and the children in Rubies made a lovely minced beef stew (See some of their photos above)

The children love cooking especially for a worthy cause and soon will be starting to grow their own produce again for future meals. Our allotment is looking sad after two years of Covid and Governor, Mrs Beadle, and the children would love any green fingered help in clearing the allotment ready for growing. If you would like to help please let a member of the team know.

Cooking dates for Autumn:

Rubies 27th September

Diamonds 20th October

Sapphires 29th November

Pearls will then cook in January.

Keep an eye out for photos!

P.E

We ask that children now attend school in uniform and bring P.E kit in a bag which should be kept in school all week. We will do our best to stick to our P.E timetable but sometimes it may be more suitable to change days so please ensure P.E kit is always in school and then taken home at the end of each week. Thank you.

Pearls (2 Year Olds, Nursery and Reception) - Tuesdays

Rubies (Years 1 & 2) - Tuesdays and Fridays

Diamonds (Years 3 & 4) - Mondays and Wednesdays

Sapphires (Years 5 & 6) - Mondays and Fridays

P.E kit should be a white t-shirt, and black shorts or jogger bottoms in colder weather. Children can bring a hoodie/jumper for colder months which should be plain black/navy/ red or can be one of our school hoodies.

Please note that jewellery should not be worn for P.E due to Health and Safety reasons. If your child has their ears pierced then please help them to remove their earrings on a morning before school if possible on P.E days.

School Uniform

All children from Reception to Year 6 are required to wear uniform.

This should consist of a red jumper/cardigan/school hoodie, white polo-shirt/shirt and black or grey skirt/trousers/shorts. Summer dresses or black/grey pinafore dresses can also be worn. Shoes should be black. Please avoid wearing trainers - if worn these must be black. Our uniform policy is available on the school website.

School logos do not need to be worn but if you would like to order logo uniform then please contact the school office.

Book bags can also be purchased from the school office.

If you think you are eligible for free school meals even if your child does not want school dinners then please do apply as we can offer support with uniform and free P.E kit. Mrs Risebury will happily explain how to do this so please feel free to give her a call.

Reading Rewards

Children earns reads for each day that they read at home/are read to at home. Only one read is counted each day.

This half-term the levels for reading will be as follows:

Bronze - 18 reads

Silver - 24 reads

Gold - 36 reads

Reading clubs are worth 3 reads and these will be start in Week 2.

Reads can be logged on Tapestry, Seesaw or on paper. We prefer reading logged online and ideally as a voice note or video so that staff can hear their reading and comment back. If your child is younger sharing a story with them counts as a read this means that it is accessible to all.

Our last reward was great fun with bouncy castles and lots of water!

Out of School Achievements

We love to share your child achievements both in and out of school. If your child has for example, been awarded a swimming badge recently or a medal in dancing then please send us a photo as we would love to celebrate this with them during our Friday assemblies and add them to our achievements book.

Special Educational Needs

If you require any advice or simply want to discuss through any concerns you may have regarding your child's needs then please feel free to contact the office. Mrs Thurlow will happily book an appointment or give you a call.

On a Wednesday morning between 8:30 and 9:00am, Mrs Thurlow (School SENDCo) will be available on the school playground should you wish to speak to her.
