BEH Weekly Family Message
October 12, 2026
Hello BEH Panthers!!
With Portland proposing to close 11-14 schools and Salem putting out their proposal to close six schools, it seems like public schools are in the center of the conversation in Oregon right now. We all need to weigh in and support moving our system to a place that is more sustainable for the future. Hopefully we can get a funding structure that better supports our schools and get back to a place where we can effectively serve all of our students.
As we go through this journey of adjustment it will be important that we all get accurate information and share our voice around what works and what does not work for our community and most importantly for our students at BEH. If you are looking to get more information or engage in deeper conversation on the topc and the effect on BEH, the PTA is offering a time for us to connect on Tuesday evening this week.
As for this week at BEH, we have an action packed week so continue reading below to find out what is going on at BEH this week and beyond:

The next PTA meeting is this Tuesday, October 13th. Join us in person or online at NOON. This month we are trying something new to see if attending a PTA meeting on a lunch break is easier than an evening time. We will review and vote on our budget for the 2026/7 school year.
PPS School closure news. The PTA is offering an additional meeting on Tuesday October 13th at 5:30pm to come together as a community and discuss the impact the proposed changes could have on our school. Mr. Kaveh will be there to share his thoughts. While we may not have answers to every question, we want to create space for our community to share concerns, listen to one another, and make sure every voice is heard. We will use the PTA meeting link for this discussion. tinyurl.com/BEHPTA2627
Harvest Fair is October 22nd at 5:00. We will celebrate the season with games, candy and food! Costumes are encouraged. We need adults to make this fun for everyone. Sign up to volunteer!
Supporting the PTA is easy with ongoing fundraisers like Bottle Drop, Fred Meyer Rewards, Raise Right and the BEH Paw shop.

Order forms went home in backpacks if you are interested in ordering picutres. Make sure that students return the completed forms with payment to the teacher by the picture day. We will have another picture day in the spring that will be non-uniform pictures.
Run for BEH Fundraiser:
We will have our annual Run for BEH Fundraiser this Friday. Classes will run around the block that SEI & Unthank park are on. Each grade will run during their specials time. We choose the date for this run in June each year and this year it turns out that PK is not in school on the day of the run. As a result, Ms. Smith will be working with the PK teachers to do a different date for PK to participate in Run for BEH as well.
