Good People,
This week Roosevelt Football came to 7th and 8th grade lunches to promote participation in the team. Students can play up at high school starting in 7th grade and since we do not have a team here at Sanford, this is a great opportunity to be involved in sport.
Next month we will host the 8th grade dance! The PTA has generously donated to have a DJ and snacks. Students will have to be in good standing to participate: good grades, attendance and behavior. Save the date! April 22, 2026 from 7:00-8:30pm.
It is important to share that we will be changing the dates for our Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) Reading and Math tests. All students need wired headphones for these tests and they cannot have personal electronic devices during the test (phones, watches, etc).
Reading MCA: April 14, 2026
Reading Makeup: April 15, 2026
Math MCA: April 21, 2026
Math Makeup: April 22, 2026
8th Grade Science MCA: Apr 27 & 28

Rising 9th Grade Course Selection
Both Roosevelt and South will be at Sanford on Tuesday March 24th during 3rd hour to help our current 8th graders make course selections for high school.
Roosevelt shared this link to their course catalog and registration information. They also shared this paper form they will be using with students for course registration.
South has this link to their course catalog and registration information.
7th Grade Science
For the last eight years, all 7th graders at Sanford Middle School have had the opportunity to work with spoken word artist, Frank Sentwali. In a one- week residency, Mr. Sentwali teaches the students to write and perform a spoken word poem relating to a science topic.
Mr. Sentwali will be in our 7th grade science classrooms in April, and we need to raise the money for this experience. We still are about $1000 short of our $4000 goal. If you are able to contribute, we would greatly appreciate it. The funding ends up being about $16 per student.

Parent Education Night is Tuesday!
March 24, 2026 - 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
Parent Education Night has been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 24th. We will meet in the Sanford cafeteria. Our featured speaker, Sarah Cowan, will present on the topic we think continues to be extremely relevant in the midst of this wild school year: Her presentation is titled "From Chaos to Connection with your Middle Schooler; How to be an empathetic and steady presence."
The presentation will focus on our children's needs as they move into adolescence, how we can support them during this transition, and how we take care of ourselves to make this support sustainable.
Please join us for a night of conversation and connection. Light refreshments will be provided by the PTA. We're excited to have this presentation back on the calendar!
