Strong start......but we are not done yet!

Hello Falcon Families:

The first 9-weeks has come to a close, and report cards are available in Skyward. Our students started this year off strong, but we are not letting our foot off the gas pedal! We are continuing to push forward to increase our depth of knowledge and understanding. Our girls kicked off their basketball season last week and football is wrapping up their season with their final game this week. Next season for our boys will be soccer, so be on the lookout for that tryout information. As we get ready to close out October in the next two weeks, we will have our 5th annual Trunk or Treat. If you would like to participate and have a trunk, please reach out to Florinda Cardenas (fcardenas@judsonisd.org). We will be celebrating Unity Day on October 22nd and then we close October our with Red Ribbon Week.

As a reminder, Friday, October 31st is a STUDENT HOLIDAY.....we will not have school.

Please take a moment to read through the information below. We appreciate all your support, and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,

Nicole Rosas-Saunders, Principal

“STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education is a method of hands-on teaching and learning where students learn to apply academic content by creatively solving real-world problems with innovative design-based thinking to prepare students for future career opportunities.”

What does STEM look like at Kirby STEM Academy?

At Kirby STEM academy we are focused on providing our students opportunities to develop the following strong STEM Fluency skills:

- Communication

- Collaboration

- Critical/Creative Thinking

- Productive Struggle

At the conclusion of their 6th and 7th grade years, student will be completing a grade level project tied to a real-world scenario for the greater San Antonio area.

Did you know that a VATRE is different from a bond election?

Funds from a VATRE help support daily operations of the school district like

salaries, academic programs, safety and utilities. A VATRE does not create debt,

it creates additional revenue for the operations of a district. Funds from a bond

are limited for the use of capital projects such as buildings, renovations or buses

and they typically create long-term debt that is repaid over time.

Do you have questions about the VATRE and how it may impact taxpayers?

Join Dr. Fields for two different opportunities, both on October 9th!
