Happy May/June, 2nd Grade Families!πΉπΈπ·π§ππ π ππ¦β΅
SEL Theme for May is CITIZENSHIP!
Take a look at suggestions from our SEL Team below. π½
This month we are learning about CITIZENSHIP.
We have defined citizenship as: being a good member of your community and showing that you care about the community and the people in it.
Here are some ways you can teach your child about citizenship at home:
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Do your part to help reduce pollution and water usage.
- Volunteer or donate to a local charity or organization.
- Participate in town cleanup!
- Talk to your child about what you love about your community. Talk about ways you could help improve it even more!
Books about citizenship:
- If Everybody Did By Jo Ann Stover
- The Dog That Ate the World by Sandra Dieckmann
- Carl the Complainer by Michelle Knudson
- What Mess? by Tom Lichtenheld
- Who Will I Be? by Abby Huntsman and Joanne Lew-Vriethoff

8th Social Skill Lesson-One Word
2nd Graders listened to the story, One Word for Kids, to help them understand the "One Word" that describes their year in school. As 2nd graders are getting closer to the end of the school year and their time at Warren School, this lesson helps them reflect on all the things they learned in 2nd grade and to think of one word as their memory word and/or positive affirmation word from school.
In the story, the main character, Stevie, has trouble finding his one word. With the help of his teacher and Dad, Stevie realizes how you find your word is just as important as the word itself. As our 2nd graders move on to 3rd grade, we discussed how they can carry and nurture their "one word" on with them as they move on. Students made One Word bracelets and practiced kite breathing πͺ to wrap up our lesson. Great job 2nd graders! β
