Message from the Superintendent

Thank you, voters, for passing our Lake Oswego School Levy Measure 3-592. We are grateful to our community for your steadfast support of our schools.

LOSD voters passed Measure 3-592, now with more than 73% of ballots cast in favor of our local option school levy in the Special Election on May 16, 2023. The more ballots that get counted, the higher the approval ratings! It's a significant vote of confidence for how our community values education and supports students.

Passing the levy is a big win for our students, protecting educational excellence by funding essential resources in our district. With our community's support, we have our level of staffing and quality of programming to help students thrive in school and life.

Much of the election's success is credited to our fantastic volunteers who helped get out the vote. I'd especially like to recognize the Citizen Campaign Steering Committee Co-Chairs Courtney Clements and Heather Wick, along with their right hands Jen Peterson and Mark Birge, for rallying volunteers to write 3,000 postcards, speak at countless community gatherings, host honk and waves, espouse advocacy on social media, secure endorsements, and much more! They would tell you the best way to honor them is by heeding the call to help when asked to support our schools!

Thank you for voting -- and volunteering! -- in this and every election.

Directors Aird & Wallin Elected for 4 More Years

LOSD voters elected Director Kirsten Aird and Director John Wallin to the Lake Oswego School Board for a second and third term, respectively. Each board term is four years of volunteer service to our district. Both candidates ran unopposed in the Special Election on May 16, 2023. Congratulations on being re-elected, and thank you for your dedication to our students and learning community.

Hosting State's First Unified Sports Track & Field Meet

LOSD is hosting Oregon’s first Special Olympics Unified Sports track and field meet at Lake Oswego High (LOH), with teams from Lake Oswego and Milwaukie High Schools competing in the dual event today from 4:30-5:45 p.m.

Unified Sports is an inclusive sports program that unites Special Olympics athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) and partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities) as teammates for training and competition.

Track races include 50 and 100-meter walks, 100, 200, and 400-meter runs, and 400-meter relays. Field events include shot put, softball throw, running long jump, and standing long jump.

Erin Cealey, LOH Learning Support Center teacher, serves as the school’s Unified Sports Coordinator. Under her leadership, LOH became a Unified Champion School in the spring of 2022. We have fielded Unified Sports teams in soccer and basketball for the past two years. Track and field is new for LOSD this spring. The program serves more than 50 athletes.

Finishing off the spring season, the LOH Unified Sports 400-meter relay team is competing in the OSAA State Track and Field Championships during the Special Olympics race. Congratulations!

Verify Your Student's Information

We know people appreciate hearing from us. However…52 students in our system have workplace switchboards listed as their family's primary numbers. If possible, please do your coworkers a favor and put your personal line as the primary contact when you verify your student's information.

Log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account, contact your student's school. Changes to COVID-19 Response

The Oregon Department of Education and Oregon Health Authority has updated requirements for school districts' communicable disease management planning for the 2023-24 school year. Included are the following changes to our COVID-19 response:

Change to Exposure, Isolation Guidance Starting May 11

  • A five-day period of isolation for those infected with COVID-19 is no longer recommended for the general population, including people in K-12 education settings. Our schools will continue to follow the recommendation for students and staff to stay home until fever free for 24 hours and symptoms improve.

  • Several sources of COVID-19 data ended. We will archive our dashboard and CDC Community Level metrics shared in our newsletter, website, and school signage.

Vaccination No Longer Required For School Staff, Volunteers Starting June 17

  • The COVID-19 vaccination requirement for public and private school teachers, staff, and school volunteers (OAR 333-019-1030) will be lifted. That means that after June 16, teachers, school staff, and school volunteers will no longer have to provide proof of vaccination or have a valid medical or religious exception on file to be in direct or indirect contact with students.

Reminders from Our District Nurses

Asthma/Allergy Medications at School

It is critical to the health and safety of your student to bring ALL doctor-recommended medications to school. Over the summer, speak with your doctor to get the proper supplies for school, and then go to the LOSD web page to find the proper forms to be completed with the medications. If your student is in Elementary or Secondary and will store their meds at school, watch for a medication drop-off time for your particular school. If they are in secondary and keeping their medication in their possession, please submit the proper paperwork so we know where to find their medication in case of an emergency.

Individualized Health Plan? - Watch for an Email

If your child has an LOSD Individualized Health Plan (IHP) developed in consultation with your District Nurse, please watch for an email! Your response is needed to confirm or update your student's plan. We appreciate your prompt reply.

Immunizations

Please review the OHA requirements and information on required immunizations for students. Please arrange to complete immunizations and update Synergy over the summer to avoid exclusion in 2024.
