A Note from the Principal
Bethel is blessed with the best teachers anywhere — I may be biased, but after 23 years here (28 years total in education), I’ve seen their dedication and love for our students firsthand.
Our teachers are:
Hardworking
Creative
Passionate about students’ success
Each unique — making learning fun and engaging!
Having a variety of teachers throughout a child’s education is a gift that makes a positive difference.
Thank you for:
Supporting your child’s teacher assignment
Encouraging your child to have a great year, regardless of which teacher or friends they have in class
Remember: Some of life’s greatest blessings come from unexpected surprises — and this year will be full of them!
Can't Come to Meet the Teacher?
If you are unable to come to Meet the Teacher, you may call the school office on Friday, August 14th to find out who your child has. Thanks!!
Hairdresser Volunteers
We need 2-3 more hairdressers and barbers
Hey Bethel families,
We need 2-3 more volunteers to ensure all of our students will be able to get haircuts at Meet the Teacher if they want one. Please email me at awatson@haywood.k12.nc.us or text me at 828-226-3128. Thanks!!

First Day Reminders
First Day of School – Monday, August 17th
Early Dismissal: 12:30 PM
Please make sure your child knows how they are getting home.
For lower grades, be sure your child’s teacher also knows their transportation plan.
Car Line Reminders:
Thank you for your patience — we average 250–300 cars daily.
The first day will be busy and slower than usual.
Keep the smiles, waves, and positive attitudes coming — it makes a difference!
Arrival & Drop-Off:
I will be at the front door welcoming students on the first day.
Teachers will be on car line duty to assist students.
Families may walk in their child on the first day only.
Starting August 18th, all students should be dropped off at the door.
Classroom & Teacher Contact:
Teachers begin instruction as soon as students arrive.
If you’d like to schedule a conference, please contact your child’s teacher by email or Remind.
Extra Support:
Several additional staff members will be on hand to help students find their classrooms.
New Tardy/Check in-out System
Our goal is for all of our students to have wonderful attendance with very few absences, tardies and check outs...however, when life happens and you need to check in your child or pick them up early for an appointment, there is a new system in our office. When you come in the office, you will go to the first desk inside the double doors. On the desk is a Chromebook with a Google form to fill out. It just has a few questions and shouldn't be too hard to complete. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up!
Subscription Fee
All students will pay a $5 subscription fee to help offset the cost of the learning subscriptions/resources, such as Scholastic News, Social Studies Weekly, & Storyworks. You may begin sending in the $5 on the first day of school. If you are unable to pay, please don't hesitate to let us know! Thanks!
