Spirit Week at FES! Spirit Week at FES!

Students in the snow

Dear FES Families,

It has been an amazing and fun-filled week at FES!

The week began with students making kindness cards for one another, followed by pajama day, special stuffy day, and show your school pride day! The best day of all was on Thursday, when the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) came to school in full force to help students make their very own gingerbread cookies and create and decorate ornaments for the season. Watching the multi-grade mix of students share creations as they tapped into art and science, mixing colors and deciding specific color ratios to turn out the perfect tone was astounding! We appreciate all the effort and extra hands from our PTO members! It made for an enjoyable day for our whole school...And it smelled amazing!

As a reminder, our holiday vacation break begins on Wednesday, December 23rd. We will continue with Wellness Class for these two days, yet still sneak in some additional holiday fun before we leave for the vacation. Please continue to send your child in with sneakers for Wellness, but also the boots, snow pants, hats, gloves, and things needed for the winter outdoor play. Thanks!

All the best for a wonderful, healthy and happy vacation!

Kathie

A Healthy Reminder from the School Nurse

As the winter months approach, we anticipate an increase in seasonal illnesses, including colds, flu and stomach viruses. By working together, we can minimize the spread of illness and help all of our students, staff, and community thrive this winter.

Stay home if: Your child has a fever of 100.0°F (37.8°C) or higher. Return to school when: Your child has been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use

of fever-reducing medication (e.g., Tylenol or Motrin). Please do not administer fever-reducing medication before school and send your child in. As soon as the medicine wears off, the fever will likely return, and your child will have exposed others to their illness.

Other reasons to keep your child home: In addition to a fever, please keep your child home for at least 24 hours after these symptoms have resolved: Vomiting or diarrhea

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school healthy.

Lindsay Pino, R.N. (School Nurse)

For medical diagnosis, consult your child’s primary care provider.

Mrs. Morrocco's 1-2 Team

Students had a wonderful week practicing independent centers for literacy and math! In literacy, students partnered together to complete word work and timed fluency readings. Passages were provided at each student's level, and with personal timers, each student read passages aloud and recorded the number of words read correctly in one minute. The graphed their improvements on a chart and boy, were they proud!

In math, we have a rotation chart posted where students will rotate through core math lessons with me and then do independent and partner work with online math programs and math games to apply math skills learned from the week.

Stay tuned for family engagement activities to come home weekly with your child in the home-school folder.

Ms. Parisi's Class News

This week in Ms. Parisi’s class, we have been learning about ways poets can compare singing to working using metaphors. Students are working on their own poems about what they hear in their school. In math, 3rd graders have been working on their unit test about adding and subtracting within 1,000. The 4th graders are working on understanding how each place value is 10 times greater or less than the one next to it. In social studies we have been learning about the extreme weather that we can have in New Hampshire. They are looking at significant events from our past and writing about them.
