What is Multi -Tiered System of Support in Delaware Schools?
MTSS is a framework that is designed to meet the needs of the whole child through an integrated multi-level prevention system.
MTSS is a way to meet the learning needs of all students.
It refers to evidenced-based, instructional strategies, interventions and other resources that are used to help all students achieve. MTSS is evidence-based, and uses problem solving to address both academic and non-academic instruction and interventions.
When a school uses MTSS, all students are taught the same content (tier 1), however some students receive additional help (tier 2/3) when needed. A school problem solving team, PST, reviews your child's progress using data to determine how to support your child's needs.

Meet Your Dean of Students
Hello, Lancashire Families! I’m Ms. Rogers, your Dean of Students and MTSS Tier 1 Lead. My role is to help ensure that every Lion feels safe, supported, connected, and ready to learn.
As part of my work, I support our schoolwide PAWS expectations, student behavior and problem-solving, social-emotional learning, attendance, student voice, and the consistent implementation of supports that help all students thrive. I also partner with teachers and families when students may need additional support navigating challenges at school. Whether you have a question, a concern, or simply want to work together to help your child be successful, I am here as a resource and partner for your family. Together, we can help every Lion Practice Kindness, Act Safely, Work Responsibly, and Show Respect, while making Lancashire a place where every student knows they belong.
PAWS IN PRACTICE
From Good Practices to Guaranteed Experiences for Every Lion. At Lancashire, PAWS is more than a set of school expectations; it is how we are working to create a safe, welcoming, predictable, and supportive school experience for every Lion, every day. This year, we are strengthening our schoolwide Tier 1 supports. Tier 1 simply means the practices, routines, and support that ALL students receive to help them learn, build relationships, regulate their emotions, and make positive choices. Our goal is to move from good practices happening in some places to guaranteed experiences happening across our school.
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD EXPERIENCE?
No matter the classroom or school setting, our Lions should experience:
Clear PAWS Expectations
Students learn what it looks and sounds like to Practice Kindness, Act Safely, Work Responsibly, and Show Respect.
Belonging & Connection
Students should feel known, welcomed, valued, and connected to their classroom and school community.
Morning Meeting
Students begin their day building relationships, practicing social-emotional skills, and preparing their minds and bodies for learning.
Opportunities to Regulate & Reset
Calm Corners, movement, breathing strategies, and other tools help students learn how to manage big feelings and return to learning.
Teaching Before Consequences
We don't just expect students to know what to do. We teach, model, practice, remind, and reinforce our expectations.
Opportunities to Repair
Mistakes happen! Students are supported in reflecting, repairing harm, solving problems, and making a better choice next time.
Student Voice
Our Lions' experiences matter. We want students to have opportunities to share what is working, what they need, and how we can continue making Lancashire a PAWSome place to learn.
PAWS IN PRACTICE SPOTLIGHT:
Calm Corners: A Place to Reset, Not Escape
You may hear your Lion talking about a Calm Corner in their classroom. A Calm Corner is not a punishment, and it isn't a place to avoid learning. It is a designated space where students can practice strategies for calming their bodies, managing emotions, and preparing themselves to return to learning successfully. Students are learning that having a big feeling is okay and that we can develop tools for deciding what we do with that feeling.
One phrase you may hear us use is:
PAUSE. BREATHE. CHOOSE.
PAUSE - Stop and notice what you're feeling.
BREATHE - Give your body a moment to reset.
CHOOSE - Make a choice that helps you move forward.
TRY PAWS AT HOME!
Want to reinforce the same skills at home? Try asking:
“What do you need to be successful right now?”
“Do you need a moment to pause and reset?”
“What choice could you make next?”
“How can we repair what happened?”
“Which PAWS expectation are you showing?”
When students hear similar language at school and at home, we help them understand that kindness, safety, responsibility, respect, and self-regulation aren't just school expectations, they are skills for life.
ONE SCHOOL. ONE PRIDE. ONE PAWS.
Consistency creates predictability.
Predictability creates safety.
Safety creates space for learning and belonging.
Together, we're bringing PAWS to life for every Lancashire Lion!
