Westmoor Weekly 11/14/2025
November 14, 2025
A Note from Principal Eck
Dear Westmoor Families,
Today marks the end of the trimester! We’re so proud of the progress our students have made so far. Report cards will be available on December 5th and if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
On Tuesday, our Packs worked together to design a penguin to represent their group as a decoration for the Winter Sing. Students and staff truly tapped into their creativity, and the ideas they came up with were wonderful. I shared a few photos above, but there were far too many great creations to include them all. We’re excited to showcase every penguin at the Winter Sing on December 5.
On Wednesday, we continued building community by celebrating Kindness Day with a special guest read-aloud in all classrooms.
Have a wonderful weekend.

WINTER SING - DECEMBER 5 (1st THROUGH 4th)
Dear Westmoor Families,
We have been working very hard this winter in art and music to create a performance for you. This year’s program is on Friday, December 5, and will feature students’ art, singing, dancing, and instruments.
Please send your child to school dressed for the concert on Dec. 5, and when they’re done performing they will be free to change into more comfortable clothes for the rest of the day.
The doors will open fifteen minutes before each performance. Enjoy the music and look for your child’s artwork displayed after! If you are unable to attend, the performance will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel.
Friday, Dec. 5 - Large Gym (Please enter at Door D - Doors will open at 9am)
9:15 - Grades 1-2 Concert & Art Show
10:15 - Grades 3-4 Concert & Art Show

COGNITIVE ABILITIES TEST (CogAT) FOR 3rd & 5th
Students in 3rd and 5th grades will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) during the week of December 8. The assessment includes three sections: verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative. No special preparation is needed. As always, we simply encourage families to ensure students get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. Click here to learn more about the test.
SNOW & OUTSIDE GEAR
We had our first dose of winter weather this past Monday. Please make sure to send your students to school with the clothing they will need to stay warm AND dry! Boots, snow pants, hats, gloves. Students go outside if the weather feels like 10 degrees or above.
It is also helpful for ALL students to have a change of clothing (head to toe) in a ziploc bag in their locker. If you had summer clothes as their change, now is a good time to switch out to winter clothing.
LOST AND FOUND
The lost and found is quickly filling up and we just cleared it out after conferences in mid-October. PLEASE make sure your students name is on their jackets, hats, sweatshirts! They may be cold in the classroom and then get hot in PE or it is cold in the morning and warmer in the afternoon, so jackets & sweatshirts go on and off frequently.
Share a picture with us!
We’re excited to showcase the special moments and achievements of our students and their families. Whether it’s a holiday, cultural tradition, a child’s milestone like riding a bike without training wheels, a big win at a soccer game, welcoming a new pet, or anything else that makes you proud — we’d love to feature it! Here is the link to share a photo and brief description.

Federal law protects students’ right to access public education without discrimination based on citizenship or immigration status. Note for all Music Parents
When dropping off your child for morning music lessons at NBJH, please keep your child in the car with you until 7:30 a.m. The building does not have supervision for your children until the bell rings at 7:30 a.m.
GBN Winter Play: Peter and the Starcatcher
GBN invites District 28 families to its winter play, Peter and the Starcatcher, playing Nov. 13-15 at the Sheely Center for the Performing Arts. Peter and the Starcatcher is a comedic and fantastical play that serves as a prequel to Peter Pan, explaining how the orphan boy became Peter Pan and how Captain Hook became his nemesis. The story follows the boy and a girl named Molly as they embark on an adventure involving magical starstuff, pirates, and a faraway island. Reviews praise the show's imaginative humor, energy, and creative storytelling. Appropriate for all ages. Click here to purchase tickets!
Rotary of Northbrook Coat Drive
The temperatures are dropping, and it’s warm coat weather. For more than a decade, the Rotary of Northbrook has been helping our communities stay warm during the winter with its annual "Coat Off Your Back" collection drive. The coat drive will provide winter coats for infants, children, teens, and adults via multiple outlets serving people in need, from the homeless to veterans, displaced families, and the elderly. You can drop off your donation at the donation bin located at the front of our school.
