PICO for Wass Elementary School,
Troy, MI
Congrats from the PTO!
On behalf of the Wass PTO, we'd like to extend our warmest congratulations and well-wishes to our 3 retiring staff members, Mrs. Walters, Mrs. Mui and Mr. Weller! Each of you have played a huge role in shaping the Wass experience for so many children and families throughout your time here. Your big-hearted commitments to the our school over the years means the world to all of us, and we thank you for all you have done in your incredible careers!
We'd also like to thank you, the Wass families, for your contributions to various fundraising efforts throughout the school year too. Because of your generosity, we were able to provide a PTO sponsored staff breakfast for staff on Wednesday in celebration of our retirees.
Always remember, "Once a Wolf, Always a Wolf" holds true for all those who pass through the doors of Wass Elementary! We hope you enjoy your well-earned adventures, and we hope you won't be strangers!
PTO Business
Our final meeting of the school year took place last month. If you missed out on the wrap up, our minutes are always available on the Wass webpage under PTO. Please know that, you are welcome to be a part of the PTO regardless of meeting attendance and if you'd like to participate or contribute in any way, you are always welcome! Feel free to reach out! We'd love to hear from you!
PTO Board Elections were held during our May meeting. Ashleigh, Tony and Krista will be returning as co-presidents and secretary respectively for the next two-year term. Kevin has decided to end his time as PTO Treasurer. We are profoundly thankful to him and the time and effort he put into his role during his term. Kevin was crucial in getting us all through a transitional time with his expertise and love of number crunching. We will miss you, Kevin!
With that being said, hard goodbyes lead to joyful "hellos" and we welcome Emily Strait to the board as the incumbent treasurer! She is an awesome edition to our team and we cannot wait to work with her in the next years. Thank you and welcome, Emily!
We are still looking for some committee chairs for a few positions - notably Auction, Restaurant Nights and 5th Grade Graduation. If you are on the fence... get off the fence and join us :). But seriously, we are open to all questions and inquiries!
Lost & Found--available until June 3rd!

Oakland County Enhancement Millage
How is the Regional Enhancement Millage Different from the 2022 Bond?
In 2022, the voters in Troy generously approved a bond millage, allowing the Troy School District to renovate and update our existing facilities, as well as construct a new Smith Middle School and academic wing at Athens High School. By Michigan law, the funds from the bond millage have limits on how they can be spent. While they can be used for new construction, renovations, and certain capital outlay purchases, they cannot be used for the general operation of the school district. In other words, they cannot fund program enhancements, pay teacher salaries, purchase supplies, fund day-to-day transportation, pay utilities, or update curriculum.
A Regional Enhancement Millage is one of the only ways that a Michigan school district has to increase general operating revenue. Since the passage of Proposal A in 1993, the amount of funding that a school receives for operating expenses has been controlled at the state level, and individual school districts cannot ask voters to increase that revenue. A Regional Enhancement Millage is the exception to this rule. It allows Intermediate School Districts (ISDs), such as Oakland Schools, to ask all of the voters in their service area to approve additional funding for the schools - funds could be used on programming, paying teachers, purchasing supplies, day-to-day transportation, updating curriculum, and more.
To learn more about the Regional Enhancement Millage, we invite you to attend an upcoming community meeting or visit the Enhancement Millage Website: www.oaklandenhancementmillage.com.

Wass Traffic Procedures
With the winter months approaching, traffic will be more congested and it will take all of us to do our part.
Thank you to our families who are driving safely and following our procedures that were specifically designed with safety at the forefront.
Morning Drop Off Procedure (8:20-8:35 a.m.)
- Do not park in the Student Drop-Off Loop or the Staff Parking Lot.
- Use the Drop-Off Loop only for dropping off students.
- When dropping off students, pull up as far as possible.
- Adults should stay in the car. Encourage students to exit your car quickly and safely (from the right side of the car only). If you have a car seat on the right side of the car, please move it to the left side or use the parent parking lot.
- Please stay behind the car in front of you and wait patiently.
- Please make a right hand turn out of the Drop Off Loop to avoid traffic backups.
- All kindergarten students must be dropped off at the kindergarten doors.
Dismissal Procedure
Please follow the pick-up guidelines for a smooth dismissal.
