Fall Into Reading Fest
Our annual Fall (into Reading) Fest was a big hit! Thank you to all of the families who joined us! And a great big thank you to all who made it possible - our staff and high school students who volunteered, our custodians who helped with set up and tear down, our PTA who provided a free meal to all, Culvers who donated free scoops of frozen custard, Dan's Feed Bin who donated the corn for our scavenger hunt bins, and to the Superior Public Library for joining us with a great craft and game!

Cooper Families,
Thank you to everyone who came last week for our literacy family night. It was so great seeing all the families and watching the kids participate in the fun activities. We have a lot of events coming up this month. We look forward to seeing everyone at our Trunk -or-Treat and at our fall conferences at the end of the month.
Next week we will have our Annual Parent Meeting tonight just before the virtual PTA meeting. I would like to invite all families to join me as I host a brief, informative meeting where I will share about Cooper's Title I Program and outline the ways in which our Cooper students benefit from Title I funds.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Feel free to join immediately at 6 PM where I will speak briefly, and then you may leave the Google Meet or remain in the Meet for the Cooper-Weisberg PTA Meeting that will directly follow!

October is National Bullying Awareness Month. It is also when we will celebrate Unity Day (Oct. 16th).
At Cooper, all staff and students will be focusing on the importance of respect and empathy. When we try to take time to listen to someone else and attempt to understand how they are feeling, it can lead to empathy and respect which in turn should stop bullying behaviors. Students will not only be learning how to show respect to others, but also how to show respect to themselves, their community, the things around them, and the earth. And it isn't just the "how" of showing respect, it's the "why". We will discuss the importance of respect and the consequences (good and bad) of showing respect. One way to concretely teach how to be respectful is to give very clear examples of what is and is not respectful. Teaching children manners and showing/modeling examples is an easy way to begin to lay the foundation of showing respect to others.
