Online Book Club

NAFC is trying something different in 2026.

After a very successful and meaningful study, via Zoom, of this life-changing book last year, we’re now offering an online version. Each Wednesday, we’ll be discussing Me and White Supremacy, by Layla Saad, “together” our Facebook group. A new chapter will be presented each Wednesday and you can check in at any point during the week to share your thoughts and see what others have to say.

In the month of May, we take time to reflect and celebrate the important role that Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) have played in our shared history.

The theme of AANHPI Heritage Month in 2026 is “Power in Unity: Strengthening

Communities Together.” This year’s theme highlights the importance of leveraging

collective power, storytelling, and bridge building within communities.

The U.S. Census Bureau classifies people of Asian descent as “having origins in any of

the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent”

including, but not limited to China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, India, Cambodia,

Vietnam or the Philippines.

Pacific Islanders are people who descended from the islands of Polynesia, Micronesia,

and Melanesia. This includes, but is not limited to people from Native Hawaii, Samoa,

Tahiti, Guam, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea.

AANHPI people are a diverse and growing population that make up about 7 percent of

the total U.S. population. As of the 2020 U.S. Census, there were about 20.6 million

The National Archives holds a wealth of material documenting the Asian and Pacific Islander experience, and it highlights these resources online, in person programs, and through traditional and social media.

George Floyd Rememberance Day-May 25th George Floyd Rememberance Day-May 25th

The death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, became a pivotal moment in the movement against racial injustice and police brutality in the United States. Captured on video by bystanders, the incident showed Floyd pinned to the ground by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd's neck for over nine minutes while Floyd repeatedly stated, "I can't breathe." This distressing footage sparked widespread protests across the nation and globally, highlighting issues of systemic racism and the excessive use of force by law enforcement. The Black Lives Matter movement, which had previously gained traction, intensified its efforts in response to Floyd's death, urging for changes in policing practices and greater accountability.

On May 25th, we remember the senseless killing and use it as a reminder that there is still so much work to be done.

Join us to discuss this thought-provoking collection of essays by Mikki Kendall

All are welcome to join us to discuss this thought-provoking collection of essays which lay out how mainstream feminism increases privilege for some while failing to address the most basic needs of others. How can we call ourselves feminists while maintaining “a glaring blind spot” with regard to women of color?
