2026 Newsletter - Week 10, Term 2
Greenmeadows School, 23rd June, 2026
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
The term is racing by, and so much is in front of us before we get to the end of next week.
Lots of excitement is building for this Thursday evening. Our GMS Matariki celebration has become a very popular feature of the school calendar since we started observing Matariki more than a decade ago. It is a wonderful whānau event for the whole school community.
We urge you to book for a parent interview if you have not done so. It is not too late. See details below. Each child's report will be shared with their whānau at this time. The opportunity to discuss this is so valuable for teacher, parent and child.
Ngā mihi

Principal/Tumuaki

Matariki Evening at GMS - Thursday 25 June 2026 - 5.30pm until 7.00pm
Our school will celebrate Matariki with a function at school that all are invited to. We start proceedings at 5.30pm in the Hall.
There will be food and drink on sale. Things on sale include pulled pork buns, sausages and vegetable soup, as well as marshmallows for toasting! Look at the flyer below for all the stuff on offer!!
Plan to wrap up warmly, bring a torch along and come to be part of this activity. This is a winter celebration, so it will take persistent heavy rain to see it cancelled. Otherwise it will be on.
Note that for the evening we will be taking cash only for the night. No EFT-POS or GMS Cash Cards.
REMINDER - PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS - MONDAY 29TH JUNE & TUESDAY 30TH JUNE
Reminder we have parent teacher interviews coming up next Monday and Tuesday.
School will close at 2pm both days. Children can be picked up from 2pm. Supervision will be provided until 3.00pm for those who can not be collected any earlier.
Interview time slots are for 15 minutes. Interviews will start at 2.15pm on both Monday and Tuesday. The last interview time on Monday will be 7pm and Tuesday at 6.45pm.
Bookings can be made through the Hero App, under "School Bookings" on the front screen, and then follow the prompts. If you havent already made your booking get in quick as spaces fill up fast!
Hero will only allow one parent booking per child. If your child goes between two households and you wish to have a separate interview to their other parent, then this can be organised. If you only have one child at school, your child's teacher can make the booking for you. If you have two or more children in this situation, contact the office and our staff will be able to make those bookings for you.
If you do not have access to the Hero App, contact Carolyn or Sara at the school office.
FINAL FAREWELL ASSEMBLY FOR ALI DE LANGE
We are holding a farewell assembly for Mrs de Lange on the last day of the term, Friday 3rd July.
The assembly will take place in the Hall at 2pm. We had previously advertised it as He Kapua but have made the change. Everybody is welcome to come along and say their goodbyes to Mrs de Lange. This will take the place of the normal Friday assembly.
GARDENING GROUP NEWS
The garden group celebrated Matariki by tidying up and weeding, gathering and sorting seeds ready for spring, and planting some special potatoes. These are traditional Maori potatoes called 'tutaekuri'

SICKBAY NOTIFICATIONS TO PARENTS & CAREGIVERS
Now with the new Hero system we are unable to text parents when children have been in the sickbay for a minor injury. In future please look out for any email communications from us as this is our only way of contact. Rest assured If the injury was more serious we will always call.
For new parents who are anaware of this, school policy is we must contact parents when any student knocks their head in any shape or form. For serious head knocks we will always call, but for minor injuries we will just send through an email, so keep an eye out for us in your inbox!
ENROLMENTS FOR 2026 & 2027
If you have a child who is going to turn five at any stage this year or next year, and they are going to attend Greenmeadows School, please let us know as soon as possible.
This also applies to any relatives, neighbours or friends you may have who live in our zone and wish for their children to come to our wonderful school.
Even if you think we may already know, there is no harm in telling us (again).
You can either phone the school or email Sara at saraa@gms.school.nz
Many thanks for your help.
