Message from the Principal Message from the Principal

The school year is off to a strong start at Baker! Walking through classrooms, you can see students actively engaged—sharing ideas, collaborating with peers, and diving into new challenges across all subjects. Whether it’s building math problem-solving strategies, exploring stories in literacy, or engaging in hands-on science, our students are showing curiosity, effort, and pride in their work.

We are so proud of their hard work and the positive learning environment they are creating together each day. Thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home and being an important part of the Baker community!

A special thanks to all the families who were able to share their ideas about what should be included in the Baker Instructional Vision. We will be sharing the final version of it with you next month.

A Special Gift for Our Kindergarteners A Special Gift for Our Kindergarteners

Each of our kindergarten students received a copy of "Be You" by Peter Reynolds.

This inspiring story is a beautiful way to encourage our newest learners to embrace curiosity, kindness, and confidence as they begin their educational journey with the Brockton Public Schools. Each book includes a special sticker with the message:

“This book is given to you with love as you begin your exciting adventure as a student and reader. May you always be bold, curious, kind, and most of all, Be You.”

This wonderful initiative has been made possible through the continued generosity of the Brockton Public Library. Under the leadership of Director Paul Engle, the library has fully funded the cost for several years, this year even purchasing the books through our local Dr. Ellie Paris Social Bookstore, making this truly a gift of community helping community helping community.

📚 Attendance Matters

  • Daily attendance is extremely important for your child’s learning.

  • Please be sure your child arrives on time each day.

  • If your child is absent:

    1. Call the main office at 508-894-4427 to report the absence.

    2. Send a written note the next day to your child’s teacher explaining the reason for the absence.

🚗 Dismissals

  • Dismissals should only occur for emergencies or appointments that cannot be scheduled outside of the school day.

  • Please send a note to your child’s teacher if a dismissal is needed.

  • A photo ID is required when dismissing your child.

  • ⏰ No dismissals after 2:30 p.m.

WATER BOTTLES WATER BOTTLES

💧 To help us maintain a clean and safe environment, please follow these guidelines:

  • Only water may be brought into the building.

  • Use simple, spill-resistant bottles with caps that close tightly.

  • 🚫 No Stanley or Stanley-style bottles with straws.

  • 🚫 No styrofoam or styrofoam-like cups.

📦 All water bottles must stay inside your child’s backpack when entering/exiting the building.

  • Students should not carry bottles in hallways, as spills create safety hazards.

  • Water fountains are available throughout the building for student use.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep Baker safe and welcoming for everyone!

FOOD POLICY FOOD POLICY

🍎 Food allergies are a growing concern in schools, and keeping all Baker School students safe is our highest priority. To protect children with food allergies — including those that can be severe — we cannot allow food or edible treats to be shared at school. We greatly appreciate the kindness behind bringing in treats, but we must kindly decline them so every child can be safe.

🎉 We know birthdays and special occasions are important! Families are welcome to celebrate by sending in non-food items such as:

  • Books

  • Pencils, erasers, or notepads

  • Folders or stencils

  • Crayons, colored pencils, or markers

  • Small games or playing cards

💙 Thank you for helping us keep all students safe while still making their special days meaningful.

TOY POLICY TOY POLICY

🎒 We ask for your support in making sure students do not bring toys or games to school—electronic or otherwise—as they often create distractions during learning time. If a special classroom reward is planned, your child’s teacher will communicate that directly with families.

🖐️ To support students who may need sensory breaks or tools for focus, the school provides a variety of appropriate classroom resources.

⚽ For recess, the school also supplies balls, jump ropes, hula-hoops, and other equipment, so there is no need to bring items from home.

💙 Thank you for your cooperation in helping us create a safe, focused, and engaging environment for all students.
